Jewish red head, went to Maryland. Don't remember his name though .... Kept Shomer Shabbos.

Tamir Goodman - he retired from basketball just a few months ago (international ball, of course).  And he never actually went to Maryland, just got offered a scholarship.  Definitely did not roll on Shabbos, though.

EDIT:  Also, this is not the guy my question referred to.  Thought you were asking a question yourself, sorry.

Good luck with this one.

Over an 11 year NBA career he only averaged above 4ppg twice, and never got higher than 6. Despite 720 games played, he didn't start 30. He is also a 3 time NBA champion, and a 2 sport All-American in highschool.

This is now a 10 tommy point question. It's hard.

Hint: would've been a 4 time champion if it weren't for an alleged gambling scandal that goes swept under the rug.

I'm actively trying to look this up and can't figure it out.

In the mid-90s, this player was perhaps the most hyped high school player of all time (to that point).  Featured in a Sports Illustrated article at just 16 years old, this player became entangled in a web of college commitments, decommitments, challenged SAT scores, and assorted shenanigans before finally attending an SEC school for a single season at the age of 21.  Though he played several years overseas, he never took part in a single NBA game.  Who is he?

TP for closeness, but not quite.  A hint:  His last name is a type of fabric.
