Summer MLE targets

Just browsing list of 2010 free agents.
I believe we will re-sign Ray Allen & Tony Allen using Bird rights.
Who should we target for MLE?
Only two names comes to mind:
a) Travis Outlaw
b) Mike Miller
c) trying to somehow split MLE to re-sign Marquis Daniels & Nate Robinson...we don't have Bird rights for them...maybe Daniels injury will scare off teams and we can sign him for vet.min for 2 years with wink wink promise to re-sign him to a larger deal when having Bird rights
Also...i think Ray Allen is worth max 10mil/2years with 2nd year team option

We can sign Daniels and Nate by using Non-Bird exception rule...120% of the previous salary, which is 4,8 mio for Nate and 2,4 mio for Marquis...that is more than enough for Robinson, with Daniels it will be tougher...

For MLE I would like Miller or maybe use a part of it on Raja Bell or Outlaw...

There could be a few options:

-Hakim Warrick

-CJ Watson - restricted, but it's known he wants to leave G.S.

-Anthony Morrow - Restricted, would GS match? S&T for baby, then use MLE on Warrick?

-Kelenna Azubuike - I really like him. He's recovering from injury and has a 3.3 million player option next year. If we told him we'd sign him for the MLE, would he decline the option and become a FA? Is he going to anyway?

-Dorell Wright

-Sergio Rodriguez - Restricted, but not really, because NY will renounce him to make the plunge at Lebron/Bosh. Backup if Nate leaves.

-Roger Mason

-Kyle Korver

Here's the information on the non-bird exception we'd use to sign Marquis and Nate...

NON-BIRD EXCEPTION -- This is also a component of the Veteran Free Agent exception. Players who qualify for this exception are called "Non-Qualifying Veteran Free Agents" in the CBA. They are veteran free agents who are neither Qualifying Veteran Free Agents nor Early Qualifying Veteran Free Agents, either because they haven't met the criteria, or because they are Early Bird free agents following the second season of their rookie scale contract and whose team renounced the Early-Bird exception. This exception allows a team to re-sign its own free agent to a salary starting at 120% of the player's salary in the previous season, 120% of the minimum salary, or the amount needed to tender a qualifying offer (if the player is a restricted free agent -- see question number 36), whichever is greater. Raises are limited to 8% of the salary in the first year of the contract, and contracts are limited to five seasons when this exception is used.

Nice breakdown.  Give or take a few million and that strategy would put us at the same payroll we're at this year.

Not sure Outlaw should be our man, though.  Not an ideal role-player, IMHO; he spends too much time looking for his shot and not enough time focusing on rebounding and playing shutdown D. I can tolerate that in a back-up combo guard, but not in a back-up 3/4.

I think were gonna be able to get a good group of players in free agency even if the guys already there dont wanna stay however what id focus on is selecting a star potential backup SG in this year's draft! Giddens was a bust and so was Walker! so start scouting DA!

The question is, who are potential trade partners for an s&t with Ray??

I love the guy but honestly with the free agent bonanza that is Summer 2010, I don't know how much interest we can expect for a will-be 35 yr old shooting guard.

But - if they can lure Mike Miller, he'd be a perfect fit.  Travis Outlaw would be tempting - but he left Portland for minutes, and I think he might re-sign with the Clippers - heck, the Clippers could be a playoff team next season.

Hakim Warrick is a good fit if he can be had ... someone could overpay him.

I like Hakim Warrick as well maybe Drew Gooden or Joe Alexander. Danny's always looking for a bride in a brothel but I hope he passes on Darko next year. Also Tyrus Thomas is restricted FA next.

Ray would seem a perfect fit for MLE if he'll take it.

Warrick is a player that always teases but, never plays to his full potential which is why he keeps getting moved.  Sort of like the Clippers as far a team is concerned.  I would pass.
