Cutting it close to initiate discussion on a trade of that caliber, isn't it?

I guess there won't be an Amare trade, which seems dumb to me; it could have helped both teams.

I can understand Miami's hesitance to give up Beasley and a Pick.

I wonder whether a shotgun wedding might be better than a long courtship. Maybe less chance of cold feet?

I can't, since 1) they don't like Beasley that much, and 2) Amare is an elite scoring big man that would fit excellently beside Dwade.

I agree.

If you have a chance to pair up Wade and Amare, shouldn't you go all out to do it?  Its clear that Amare is an upgrade on Beasley.

Potential shouldn't cloud Miami's judgement here.

or you can just wait for the offseason and sign Amare (if opt out) and give up nothing--- heat are going nowhere this year anyhow

I think Miami would have done it if they had any assurance that they'd definitely be able to resign Amare in the offseason, but since that isn't guaranteed, it's understandable they wouldn't want to give up 2 first rounders or a first rounder and Beasley (#2 overall just a couple years ago), since they aren't going to win it all this year even if they add Amare.

A) There's still the possibility that you can lock up Amare this summer.
B) Those picks might be better used to add some spice to a sign and trade this summer.
C) Amare is never going to be a great defender and if you think Beasley can grow into a as good a scorer why give up pieces when you're in the middle of rebuilding?
D) We don't know how good Amare will be at creating his own offense next to a guard like Wade as opposed to Nash.

You know what I don't get about this

They NEVER liked Beasley

EVER

They didn't want to pick him

They wanted Mayo

They should have just done what the Houston Texans did with the Mario Williams/Reggie Bush decision

Have some faith in your scouting abilities, take the guy you want regardless of position and let history judge the rest
Pick 2 Knicks

SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham

Apparently, the Wizards are trying to get involved as well.

Hollinger mentioned that Washington is still about $500K over the lux tax line, so they will certainly try to get something else done today.

Warning. Rumors out there that Wizards are involved in three-way talks with Miami and Utah. Ilgauskas could get traded again.

Now it would be really funny if the Cavs can't get Z back. :)

Yeah, I'd love to see Pat Riley screw up the Cavs' master plan.
