I really think it would be tough for them to give up Martin, but maybe a deal like this would make a little sense:

Boston sends: Ray Allen
Boston gets: Kevin Martin, Andres Nocioni

Sacramento sends: Kevin Martin, Andres Nocioni
Sacramento gets: Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver

Utah sends: Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver
Utah gets: Ray Allen

For Boston, if they are willing to take on that salary, it gets them a younger SG, and a tough bench guy, who can defend the perimeter PF's, and add a little of what they lost with James Posey.

For Sacramento, they get two expiring contracts, with one of them being the "prolific big man" that was mentioned by Berger, who they could rent for a few months, and then decide to resign if they like how he fits with the team.  I know Sacramento is not a real popular destination for NBA players, but I picture Boozer as one of the guys who would be OK with playing there, if they pay him.  Especially since they would likely be willing to pay him a little more than he would get on the open market this summer.

For Utah, they get the best SG they have had in years, and could make a run at the Lakers if things gel.  It just balances their roster a bit better.

Of course the problems are: Utah is playing great right now, and might not be willing to mess with things...but if they are willing to take a risk, Ray would be the perfect fit for them.

There is also the possibility that Utah and Sacramento cut Boston out of this, but I don't think Utah is willing to take on a contract like Nocioni's, so that would make it tough, unless they were willing to throw in the NY pick.

And then of course, the biggest question is whether Sacramento is getting enough for Martin...that I kind of doubt, but who knows how desperate they are to save some cash next season?

Interesting idea considering the Jazz would love to have Allen, but presumably SAC would want assurance that Boozer would resign, which he's not going to give them before summer.

I don't see it from Utah's side. This works for everyone but the Jazz.

It sounds good for Boston. I had ready somewhere recently that Utah and Boozer have come to the realization that he will not be moved. I dont see this happening.

True.  Although they might not have a huge problem, because even if Boozer didn't sign (or after a 2 month audition, he just didn't fit in well), Sacramento would have around $20 million in cap space this summer to throw some cash at someone else (or do a trade for a team that wants to dump a big man without taking salary back).  So in some ways, the flexibility Boozer gives them may be better than having someone locked in, in case they are a bad fit.

I mean... the Jazz need shooting like Dick Cheaney needs a cardiologist.

But then why not go get Martin directly.

Well, this is under the assumption that they are not willing to take on a bad contract like Nocioni's (Jazz are strapped for cash), or willing to pay a premium (the Knicks pick) for Martin.

In this scenario, they get Ray (who would be absolutely perfect for them, and who Sloan will LOVE), who they can then resign for half as much in the offseason, or let walk, and try to replace via the Knicks pick.

See, I would say that Utah is the definite yes in this equation. Millsap is very good.

I am unsure about ownership's willingness to pay Nocioni. The Nocioni contract reminds me a lot of the Posey deal that we didn't want to tie ourselves down to. But, Martin is a great talent that might otherwise be unavailable so it's a great question to think about.

Sacramento is probably the hold up unless they can agree to a Boozer extension beforehand, which I don't see happening. I think they can get something better for Martin than expirings.

I hear you. I'd posted a number of Ray-to-Utah ideas earlier in the season involving Boozer and AK47 coming to the Cs. I'd still be open to it but doubt it's feasible. I'd rather get Martin anyway.

  • Rondo = Good
If Utah weren't playing so well recently, I would think this could be possible.  But they are playing really well, so I don't think they're going to make any moves.

I agree with the point that Boozer will not stay in SAC. I posted this in another thread but if we were to deal with SAC, I think the only big man that would work Biedrins. I would say Amare but I don't think the suns would do it.

On the other hand if do a trade with Utah, I think Brewer will somehow be involved possibly with AK47 and his huge contract

also remember - the Jazz have been the best team in the NBA in 2010.  They are doing a good impression of a legitimate title contender - not sure they will play as a dance partner yet.

My turn for a trade based on this that y'all can shoot down ;-)

Celtics Get: Kevin Martin, Andres Nocioni, Sergio Rodriguez
Kings Get: Ray Allen, Tyrus Thomas
Bulls Get: Brian Scalabrine, Kings #2 (38 overall), Celtics #1 (#20-#30ish)

Bulls do not compromise cap space, get a pick for their troubles.
Kings get major cap relief and a big that they can re-up, and a good buy low chance.
Celts get the replacement 2 and a valuable wing big and a capable backup for Rondo with a short deal

I don't think Tyrus Thomas fits their want of a "prolific" big man.
