No Need For Alarm (Yet) With Pierce Injury
There are a number of reports that Celtics captain Paul Pierce suffered a broken foot last night against the Wizards and will miss significant time.

But sources are telling SportsCenter 5 that while a final diagnosis has not yet been made, the team does not believe Pierce’s injury is serious. It’s most likely a sprain or a strain. He may even be able to suit up tomorrow night against the Heat, but the reality is that the team (wisely) may force him to take a couple of games off, perhaps Miami and lowly New Jersey before coming back for Sunday’s game against Orlando (2:30 on Channel 5).

This has to be the best case scenario for the Celtics considering how nasty Pierce’s fall looked at the time. Pierce is still the Celtics’ best go-to-guy, even if Rajon Rondo has emerged as the one guy they can’t live without.

We should learn more tomorrow morning and we’ll pass it along as soon as we hear anything.

  • Rondo = Good
Until Pierce is back on the floor looking healthy I won't believe anything the organization says about his health.

But this is good news - I don't like thinking in "Celtics need to start rebuilding" mode.

Agreed that I'll believe it when the official word comes out, but this is still a nice little ray of sunshine after a gloomy week.  TP for the good news c.i.o.!

Does that mean Pierce's ankle is, or isn't broken?

Same here, but this is definitely good news. Now let's hope it's true and Pierce will just take some rest and be back soon!

Definitely reassured me but I hope we're not relieved to only be more disappointed soon... can't wait for the official report.

just passing on what the local TV station is running with....i am hopeful its correct...but i also went back and reread David Aldrige's breaking story on the broken foot...and he even had a blurb in it about a source close to the situation saying it wasnt bad...

Well, that would certainly be better news.

I'm holding my breath until the organization issues an official press release or addresses the media before I really get too excited, though.

Everything seems speculatory at this point.

Definitely, I'd much rather have conflicting reports than know with certainty that he's out.
