If the Cavs get Amare then we are not better then them, no way.

That's a big if. Before the season they wanted Rondo back in a trade. Now they'll settle for Hickson?

Well the national media thought Shaq had already put Cleveland ahead of everyone else in the league and look how that's turned out for the Cavs

With excellent health and a relatively easy strength of schedule the Cavs are only 2 games ahead of the injury decimated Celtics in the loss column and tied in record with the an injured Lakers team playing a tougher strength of schedule

I still say the Cavs are currently, when all other teams are as healthy as they have been for most of the season, the fourth best team in the league

Getting Amare for them guarantees nothing
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

...sorry to interrupt but YES THAT PUTS THEM OVER THE TOP!

They are already better than us, this would give us NO chance against them if we make it that far.

I like your optimism.
Exactly.  We're 1-0 on the season when it comes to the Cavs.

Of course it all depends on who they have to give up if they get Amare. But, if it's not too much then they are a real handful. For that matter, they already are. I am not trying to put us down but until we get healthy and prove something then we are not competing for any titles. If we are healthy then I agree that we are the best team in the league. The thing is, you want to talk about big ifs, that is a big if.

I like how people severely overrated expiring deals. Sure, there are a lot of teams out there who want cap relief. But there are also a LOT of expiring contracts out there.

I mean, even the Lakers' trade for Gasol is not as one sided as all these rumors coming out of cleveland. At least the lakers gave up a guy who, even though he turned out the be a bust, was a 1st round pick and highly rated prospect AND the rights to Marc Gasol, who was a member of the Spanish national team that won the gold.

JJ Hickson, or any other cavs youngster, is not the same.

And we are talking about what was considered possibly the most lopsided trade of all time.

So for these rumors to be true, they'd have to make just about the most lopsided trade ever.

If Amare could be had for that little, wouldn't the Rockets step in and offer McGrady and a combination of Budinger, Hayes, or maybe even Landry? Wouldn't the heat throw in Oneal and Beasley? Wouldn't New York throw in Larry Hughes and Wilson Chandler to have one piece in place when they try to lure Lebron or Wade in 5 months?

Tell them Edgar.  Leon will be logging those minutes very soon so that he can be in shape for the playoffs.   ;)

Kendrick Perkins + the expiring contracts of Tony, Scal and Eddie

for

Amare + minimum contract filler

Would work according to the trade machine.

Who defends the paint for the Celtics?  You're not going to get by Orlando, Cleveland or LA with no interior D.

Well here's my unlikely trade based around the recent rumor GS wants to move Ellis for Ray's expiring deal.

Boston trades Scals, Ray, Giddens and Perk
gets back Stoudemire, Raja Bell, and Anothony Randolph ( :P)

Phoenix trades Amare, Earl Clark
For Giddens, Scals, Monta Ellis and Brandon Wright

GS trades Ellis, Randolph, Bell, Wright
for Ray, Perk and Earl Clark

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I think it's very possible Cleveland gets this done. If the Suns want to get rid of him they aren't likely to get the value they want back. There aren't many teams that are going to give up picks and players for an Amare rental. Cleveland is probably one of the very few teams willing to roll the dice on Amare.

As for whether or not the trade makes Cleveland better I don't know. Talent wise it's a no brainer, but the fit is a bit different. Shaq and Amare doesn't seem to work offensively or defensively and I doubt Brown can make it work. My guess to what would happen, One of the two would probably at some point be asked to come off the bench and then the distractions would begin.
