So for the second time in three weeks the Denver defense scores a touchdown, the broncos win by less than a touchdown, but it is Tebow that does all the winning.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.  The Denver defense played great in the first half and is the only reason they were still in the game.  But it was Denver's offense, including Tebow, that won the game in the 2nd half.

Do you have this same irrational reaction when EVERY OTHER quarterback gets all the credit for winning?

Mike
Trent Dilfer got all the credit for the Ravens and their SB season?

Eli Manning got all the credit for the Giants and their SB season?

Brad Johnson got all the credit for the Bucs and their SB season?

Did Matt Hasselback and Rex Grossman and Chris Chandler get all the credit when they led their teams into the SB?

While QB is the most visible position in football and gets a lot more credit for winning and losing than they should, usually they don't get all the credit, though they sometimes do get all the publicity.

But a ton of Tebows fans give him all the credit, even for the defense, which astounds me.

Who gives Tebow all the credit?  Who says NO ONE else on Denver is doing anything?  If people are overpraising Tebow, it is almost entirely in reaction to sourpusses like you.  You really don't have any cause to call other people irrational when you practically foam at the mouth with Tebow hatred.

Mike
Sourpusses....I thought name calling was against the rules here.

I don't hate Tebow, but I don't like him either. I just can't stand the hype behind him when he is just such an ordinary to below average NFL quarterback.

But the pro-Tebow hype is almost entirely a backlash against the anti-Tebow hype that he can't play in the league.  People didnt' just say Tebow wasn't very good.  They said he sucked to such an awesome degree that he should never really get a chance to get on the field, even when Denver was 1-4 and the only other QB options were Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn.

I would bet that if critics (and his own franchise) had treated Tebow like any other young QB on a bad team, the hype around Tebow would be no better or worse than anyone else.

I think its unfair to assign collective guilt for people's doubts in this thread for ESPN talking heads bloviating on the topic of Tebow.

Which seems to be the crux of what you're saying. Since Trent Dilfer and other media guys bagged his training camp like crazy the people in this thread are unreasonable? Seems to be common to multiple people in this thread.

It is and you know it, next time if you want it addressed quickly the report button instead of passive aggressively noting it.

So lets both step back from calling the other side "irrational" by proxy or "sourpusses". Both of you lob bombs based on what "Tim Tebow Fans" and "Anti-Tebow Talking Heads" have said. Instead focus on what people in this thread are talking about.

(NSFW)

There is a pretty priceless Tebow pro's and con's list in there around the 1:10 mark.

Some cool quotes:

"Where are teams going to find quarterbacks as awful as Tebow?! The Chiefs just signed Kyle Orton, who was so bad he was cut in favor of Tebow, but there's no indication he's bad enough to win!"
Wow. That was hilarious.  Really hit the nail on the head.  It actually mimicked a thought I had.

The thought I had was ....If Tebow keeps winning other teams will start drafting "athletic" QBs with "intangibles".  Granted they might prefer far better throwing ability, but they'll be looking for the next Tebow.  IF....if if if he keeps winning.

Most of this is sorta blah blah Tim Tebow and John Fox is so great and smart and always knew the option would work.

http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/7326446/rick-reilly-john-fox-leading-broncos

The part I didn't get was that prior to the 2010 draft Tebow paid for dinner for them?  How'd he do that? With what money? He was still a college student, right? I guess his eligibility was used, so he didn't have to worry about taking money then? Maybe he got it from a book signing or endorsement deal?

Long and kinda interesting Tebow article here.  I've cut to the last paragraph here.

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7319858/the-people-hate-tim-tebow

The crux here, the issue driving this whole "Tebow Thing," is the matter of faith. It's the ongoing choice between embracing a warm feeling that makes no sense or a cold pragmatism that's probably true. And with Tebow, that illogical warm feeling keeps working out. It pays off. The upside to secular thinking is that — in theory — your skepticism will prove correct. Your rightness might be emotionally unsatisfying, but it confirms a stable understanding of the universe. Sports fans who love statistics fall into this camp. People who reject cognitive dissonance build this camp and find the firewood. But Tebow wrecks all that, because he makes blind faith a viable option. His faith in God, his followers' faith in him — it all defies modernity. This is why people care so much. He is making people wonder if they should try to believe things they don't actually believe.

I find it interesting that 5 people here in the poll had Tebow as a 9 or a 10 up there with Brees and Montana

Don't look at me. I had him way lower

I apologize for the sourpusses remark, but read the thread again and pay special attention to the reaction of Tebow critics when Denver started winning with Tebow.

Ahhhhh...he says he never wants to hear about Brett Farve either.  He says Tebow is a media driven story!

What does it mean when a writer writes something good about Tebow and the Broncos, but doesn't put his name on it? Weird

http://nfl.si.com/2011/12/11/broncos-spectacular-improble-run-continues/?sct=hp_t13_a2&eref=sihp&hpt=hp_c3

Maybe he was forced to write it? Maybe there's some sort of anti-Tebow thing in the media where they agree they don't like him, but are more than happy to make some money off the story? I don't get it.

Also......even though that was a horrid horrid forrid game that nobody deserved to win I am telling you right now when the Bears lined up to get that on sides kick they were shaking in their boots, and someone probably wet themselves when the ball bounced in the air. And again when Barber went out of bounds.  And again right before the coin flip for overtime. And again when Barber fumbled.

It was tough to watch the Bears lose the game in slow motion. Weeeee arrrreeee gettttinnnggg Teeeebboooowweedd.

Is this what everyone was telling me about? About how this isn't sustainable? About how bad he is and you refuse to believe this?

Cause I can love Tebow, but if he keeps doing this I can't watch it.  That was forrid. Forrid. I am most annoyed with D Thomas though.

I am almost jealous. The guy went out and his whole team made mistake after mistake and so did he and he still won.  Tebow is like the guy that all your classmates know is a bad student. Somehow he wakes up 5 minutes before the test, gets a 95%, all his teachers love him, and his uncle is the principal, so he literally has a best friend upstairs.  But he keeps getting 95s and you think, "he's gonna get screwed in college" and then it doesn't happen and if forces you to doubt yourself. Gee. Maybe he is a good student. No. He's not a good student. He thinks evolution happened in 5000 years. He doesn't know the difference between Russia and the Soviet Union and thinks Napoleon is a fictional kid from Idaho. Then how does he keep getting 95s? I don't know! It's totally natural to hate that guy. I still like him more than Farve. That's totally different.

He's like the Forest Gump of the NFL. Just run! Only instead of being special he's special.

All opinions on Tebow are totally justified. He is the enigma wrapped in a question deep inside a mystery of the NFL.  I like my answers faster.

Also what is going on here? It's like angels on the grid iron.

I definitely think there's an angel or two that go to God and are like "I'm not doing it anymore! I can't do this! He's forrid!"  And God is like "You'll do it and you'll like it!" And the angels are like "Fine. But I'm waiting till the 4th quarter! He has to work for it and suffer a little! And YOU help him if he makes it to a good team or the playoffs!"

Some Bears were catty after the game. I totally would have been too. Unless I were Marion Barber, in which case I would have hidden under a rock, shaved my head, switched outfits with someone, and tried to wait till 3am to leave the stadium.  "No you guys go ahead. I'll rent a car or something and catch up with you in a couple days"

Seriously Southwest should feature Barber in its next round of "Want to get away?" ads.

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/36865/another-stunning-tebowmania-chapter

And what is up with these no name writers getting the Tebow assignments?

Nice come from behind win against another hurting team.
I haven't updated my thinking on Tebow since last week: ceiling is still Vince Young.
Celtics fan for life.
