Doc: Give Bill Walker More PT

I, too, want to see more Billy Walker.  Heck, I'm even intriqued by JR and am holding out hope that he can be a player.

However, I realize that my wish is completely selfish.  Doc and Danny and the Cs staff get to see these guys play all the time, whether that be in practice or in the D-league.  Presumably, they are able to evaluate what they have in these players alot better than I am, sitting on my couch, hoping for a blowout so I can get some glimpses.

Our hopes for a title this year rest on our main guys getting healthy and being healthy for the post-season, not on giving more minutes to JR Giddens and Billy Walker.

The only real reasons to play Billy Walker significant minutes are to either increase his trade value or to make diehard fans like us happy.  Including him in a trade for some aging journeyman who is not going to help us win a title, anyway, if we don't have a healthy KG, makes no sense to me.  In the limited glimpses I've gotten of Bill W, I can certainly say he has loads of the dreaded "P" word. 

 As far as my own selfish reasons go, I guess I can hope he gets sent back down to Maine, and make the two+ hour drive up to Portland to see him play.

Does anyone else see J.R. as mental midget much like Gerald when he's out there on the floor?  He looks jumpy and indecisive.  He seems terrified that he's going to make a mistake at any moment.  And basically, he just still doesn't seem like he can believe that he's in the NBA.  Is this just me?

When he is on the floor, when he is on the bench, when he is walking down the tunnel.  JR just seems like a spazz, and has no idea how to put his energy to good use. 

I'm glad it's not just me.  We held onto hope for GG for waaaaay to long.  If he's a spazz and evokes no confidence in the teammates around him, then I can definitely see why we're letting him walk.

He wishes he was Gerald Green. At least Gerald could shoot to go with his completely and utter inability to do anything else.

He simply will not get the minutes to develop. Doc doesn't play youngsters. Billy had 7 mpg last year (29 games) and 4 mpg this season (3g). And he was a 40's pick in the Draft so he doesn't comand the same respect/credit from a coach. The problem is not Billy's talent, it's Doc mentality.

Revisionist history.  Gomes played very early in his rookie season, was terrible, and then got his second chance once injuries hit the team hard...although Doc did go on the record before the injuries forced his hand that Gomes would be playing more soon.

Rondo had a relatively normal progression for a rookie.  He barely played early in the season as he learned the system, and then as he got for familiar, he got more minutes, and then finally, when they started really tanking, he got big minutes.

Perk gradually played more and more over a number of years, and there was a clear learning curve.  He clearly was not ready his first few years, but as he got older, he learned how to use his body, and how to play, and that earned him minutes.  He started playing even more minutes as he learned how to not foul.

Orlando 2001-2002: Jeryl Sasser and Steven Hunter are rookies but don't really play

Orlando 2002-2003: Gordan Giricek (European player)and Drew Gooden were rookies and played. Pat Burke and Ryan Humphrey did not.

Boston 2004-2005: Tony Allen and Al Jefferson both played

He's played rookies when they were considered a crucial part of the teams future.

After last night's performance, albeit during garbage time, Bill Walker looks like he is ready to contribute. At a minimum, he should be getting the minutes that go to Giddens, who is just not productive on the floor, looks too tentative. Walker seems more sure of himself, and just seems to have a game more suited for the NBA.

Disagree. You can't base decisions off of some nice moves in garbage time.

No one doubts he has moves on offense. Gerald can score in the NBA, but he can't make a roster.

I agree that Giddens looks too tentative, but you might be looking for the wrong things when you talk about Walker being more productive.

How can you form an opinion on Billy Walker?? The kid played 7 mpg last year (29 games) and 4 mpg this season! And, if you don't trust him enough, how can you transform him in an trade asset if he doesn't play??
