  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
And the answer is...  no.

Can't argue with it either. We had enough turnovers without introducing a new element who wouldn't be comfortable.

no. face the facts that doc doesn't play rookies. So basically he is the type of coach who wants other coaches and teams to go through the trials in raising a player, have them leave and come to doc so he can sit down and do nothing

useless coach.

He needs to learn how to bring in rookies and not be so hard on them. Of course they won't be able to play like the vets. Absolutely no chance is given.

Bill Walker isn't a rookie, and saying Doc doesn't play rookies is abjectly false.

He played Gomes, Rondo, Powe, Davis, Maggette, etc...

Did they get heavy minutes early? No, but they played. Bill Walker has sucked whenever he's gotten the chance, and hasn't looked great in the NBDL. Its not rocket science to why Doc isn't playing him.

Bill Walker isn't a rookie.

Rookies need to learn how to earn playing time.  BBD did it.  Billy got a chance last year because of injuries and was largely ineffective.  Supposedly, he hasn't made any progress since then.  Therefore, he doesn't play.

To further illustrate Atzar's and my point:

Orlando 1999-2000: Chucky Atkins and Corey Maggete both rookies played 19.8 17.8 MPG respectively.

Orlando 2000-2001: Mike Miller a rookie plays 29.1 MPG

Orlando 2001-2002: Jeryl Sasser and Steven Hunter are rookies but don't really play

Orlando 2002-2003: Gordan Giricek (European player)and Drew Gooden were rookies and played. Pat Burke and Ryan Humphrey did not.

Orlando 2003-2004: Fired after 11 games.

Boston 2004-2005: Tony Allen and Al Jefferson both played

Boston 2005-2006: Gomes and Green both played, though not a ton still a lot more than Walker/Giddens

Boston 2006-2007: Powe and Rondo played

Boston 2007-2008: Glen Davis played

Boston 2008-2009: Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens did not play

Boston 2009-2010: Lester Hudson did not play

Doc plays roookies plenty, when they don't suck.

You know, if Gabe Pruitt was actually on another NBA team and in fact went off on the Celtics one game, I'd agree. But what happened to him? He was cut by the Knicks of all teams, and ended up on the Lakers' D-League team. But I guess that's Doc's fault for not playing him, right?  ::) That Doc didn't know how to handle a rookie, huh?

Please.

No one's saying Doc's perfect, but if his biggest flaw, according to some people here at least, is not playing guys who clearly don't deserve it, then I think I'll take Doc over most coaches in the NBA.

If Hudson doesn't get signed by another team, will you just admit that the Celtics have had crappy luck in the draft and drop this myth on Doc?

If Walker can't get run ahead of Giddens, and Giddens is pretty inempt, why does anyone care about Walker?  I certainly don't.

Well, if you admit that they won't be able to play like the vets, then why the heck would a coach whose goal is to win games, and ultimately championships choose to play them.

I personally think a coach who plays a player who does not give them the best chance to win games is a useless coach.  Doc is a very good coach.
