Is it time to consider trading Ray Allen?
I really think it might be time to trade Ray Allen. The guy looks really old and with players like PP,KG and Rasheed this team looks slow and old. I think we have to trade Ray Allen because this is going to be the last year until 2012 that we could land a potential Max player with Ray's expiring contract( PP will never be traded ). If you can get a nice couple of younger pieces or one max player who is younger and comparable to what Ray can do you have to pull the trigger. Ray would be a great 6th man off the bench , but I really don't think he is going to make it to the playoffs with much left in the tank if he continues play starters mins.
So here are some trades that I think have a chance of happening, or at least would make sense for both sides.
Bos Sends: Ray , Giddens , House
Pho Sends: Richardson , Barbosa
Why for Boston: They get a legit starting SG in return who can hit the 3 and take it to the basket. He is also a better defender than Ray Allen in my opinion. He is also only 28 so he is 6 years younger than Ray and wouldn't ware down by the time the playoffs arrive .He would fit the roll as 3rd option in the C's starting lineup and only has 2 years left on his contract , so it wouldn't kill the C's moves in the future.
Season Averages: 16.7 PPG, 51%FG'S , 44% 3P FG'S, 64% FT, 5.5 REB, 1.5 AST
The C's also get a real 6th man. Eddie House is very limited and when he is not hitting the 3, he is pretty useless out there. Barbosa gives them a guys that can play both PG and SG . He is just as good of a 3pt shooter as Eddie, but can also get a mid range game going and get other players involved. He is still only 26 and would have fresh legs coming off the bench for Rondo and Richardson. With Barbosa we could now move Daniels to backup SF so PP can get some rest.
Season Averages : 11 PPG, 47% FG'S, 39% 3P FG'S, 62% FT% 1.5 REBS, 1.5 AST
RosterPG: Rondo / Barbosa
SG: Richardson /Barbosa / TA / Walker
SF: PP / Daniels /SCAL
PF: KG / BBD / Williams
C: Perk / Sheed / Williams
Why For Phoenix: This trade would be all about gettng under the salary cap and being able to possibly add a Max contract in 2010. This trade saves them 29 Million over the next 2 years and its also brings their salary cap down to 42 MIL( Which would be about 10- 12 MIL under the cap). They could then move Grant Hill or few other small pieces for expiring contracts to put them around 15 MIL under the cap to add a Max contract, I am sure they would like to get Joe Johnson back.
This trade also still lets them contend this year. Ray is getting up there in age, but would fit well in the run and gun next to Steve Nash Pulling up for 3's on the fastbreak. Same goes for Eddie House . They would fit the suns system perfectly all offense , no defense.
RosterPG: Nash / Dragic
SG: Ray / House
SF: Hill / Dudley
PF: Amare / Amundson
C: Frye / Lopez
Bos Sends : Ray Allen , BBD, JR Giddens, 2nd rd pick
Char Sends: Gerald Wallace , Diaw , Mohammed
Why For Boston:Gerald Wallace: While Ray Allen is be a superior offensive player to Wallace, the same could also be said about Wallace being superior to Ray on the defensive end. The guy is super athletic and pretty much a lock down defender. He can gaurd sg's, sf's and even some PF's. He gets most of his offense on cuts to the basket and offensive rebound. He is a very good rebounder and can get out on the break with Rondo to connect on Alley Oops.
Season Averages: 36% FG'S , 21% 3P FG'S, 72% FT, 11.5 REBS, 1.7 STIL, 1 AST, 2 TO
Boris Diaw: Diaw is a very versatile PF who has playoff experience with Phoenix. He has a pretty good face up game and can get other players involved as he is a great passer. He is definitely a nice 6th man to bring off the bench and could start for many teams in the NBA.
Season Averages: 50% FG'S , 25% 3P FGS, 76% FT, 5.5 REBS , 1.3 STL, 4.5 AST, 1.8 TO
RosterPG: Rondo / Daniels
SG: PP / House
SF: Wallace / Diaw
PF: KG / Sheed
C: Perk / Williams
Why For Charlotte:It is no secret that the Bobcats are in deep financial trouble, just look here :
http://www.nba.com/2009/news/05/22/bobcats.sale.ap/index.htmlThis trade would give them the ability to still make the playoffs this year( which is a major goal for them) and would give them the most noteable player ever to put on a Bobcats uniform in Ray Allen. He and Stephen Jackson would make a pretty nice combo on the wings for the rest of the year. They also get BBD who is only making a 3rd of what Boris Diaw makes at the PF position for the same amound of years(2). We all saw what BBD did last postseason so there is potential for him to grow into a solid starter for the Bobcats over the next few years
This trade saves the Bobcats about 45 MIL over the next 3 years and would also bring the team salary down to around 38 MIL. This trade would allow them to contend for a playoff spot this year while giving them about 15 MIL in cap space to be able to offer a Max Contract next year. That kind of Cap Space would make the team much easier to sell .
RosterPG: Felton / Augustin
SG: Ray / Henderson
SF: Jackson / Graham
PF: BBD / Brown
C: Chandler / Diop
What do you guys think? Should we trade Ray?
