Can he still be effective as a SF?
Nocioni is an above average offensive player + rebounder for the position. I think he adds more in those two categories than he costs you defensively.
That said, I think there's a good chance that you can get better bang for your buck in free agency next year or the year-thereafter.
I think you can get more bang for your buck in a trade as the season progresses.
Good point, agreed.
Apparently, the Celtics are looking to fill a need this season.
Who else is an option?
The question is not what kind of deal we can get next year, it´s how much can we get for our dead values (read: Scal, TA, GIddens) this year.
Just because you can get a player that would have been a great fit last year doesn't mean you should jump to get him now.
And it is not like he is going anywhere fast. Chances are, he will still be available later in the season.
I don´t disagree with that.
I don´t see any other team with interest in Nocioni´s combination of skill and contract, so we have time. But do the Kings and 76ers have that time? Can we be sure to get a better deal for our scrub package?
Here are some examples of using the expiring contracts down the line this year –
Big Fish who could ask out where we’re going to need these contracts:
Chris Paul (it’s getting ugly down there – if we took some combination of Peja, Okefor, Posey, Peterson and sent back Rajon, Baby, Ray and expirings we’d be seriously in the hunt fore the guy if he asks out).
A few guys who could be available before the deadline:
Gerald Wallace
Tayshon Prince
Mike Dunleavy
James Jones
Antawn Jamison
Caron Butler
Francisco Garcia
Corey Maggette
Monta Ellis
Raja Bell
Marcus Camby
Ryan Gomes
Ramon Sessions
Leandro Barbosa
Andre Miller
Travis Outlaw
Martell Webster
Carlos Boozer
Andrei Kirilenko (would the Jazz trade Boozer and AK for Ray and our expirings?)
Luke Walton
Dan Gadzuric (get a young player from the Bucks)
Jared Jeffries (pick ANYONE on the Knicks roster if you take this guy)
Eddie Curry (pick ANYONE on the Knicks roster if you take this guy – seriously, would they trade Gallinari to be rid of his deal?)
Mo Peterson (get Julian Wright)
James Posey (get Julian Wright)
Guy who I’d rather sign than trade for Noce or Posey now:
Jerry Stackhouse
