Bring him on as Lucky's alley oop giver.

He could do dribbling exhibitions at halftime too (show the kids how he invented the legal carry dribble.

I am all for AI....As long as he publicly agrees to come off the bench with no whining!

didn't he do that when he went to Detroit?

I just don't see the point of taking that risk.  We already have one of the best rosters in the league, adding pre-madonna role players won't improve our cause.

Because someone has to drag this up and it might as well be me....

Red Auerbach was an Allen Iverson fan.

Per Let Me Tell You a Story:

The subject of Allen Iverson came up. Could Red have coached him? "Are you kidding? I'd have loved to have coached that kid. First of all, he's as quick as anyone who ever played. But beyond that, he's a warrior. I'd have gotten along great with him. The practice thing would never have been a problem. I would just very quietly tell him 'Look, you need to do this because it means something to me and to the other players.' What you have to do is let a guy know what's important to you and let him know that if he does right by you, you're going to do right by him. That's the thing: my guys always knew I'd take care of them if they played hard for me-- while they were playing and after they were done playing."

He puffed on the cigar. "Iverson reminds me of a story. Few years ago, the NBA asked me to come in and coach in the rookie game on all-star weekend. I remember this because it was Iverson's rookie year.... We won the game. And when it was over, Iverson came over to me and said, 'Coach, it was an honor to play for you.'

"And you know what? He played good defense the whole game."

Great story, I too was an AI fan back then.

Of course there is no way I'd want him on my team now after what he's done in Denver, Detroit and now Memphis.

Only if Iverson is accepting the role of coming off the bench. Thats all said and done. I mean if Ainge signed Marbury i think he would sign AI. I believe we tried to trade for him awhile ago as well before he got traded to Denver. We shall see though some contender will grab him. We will just see if its us!

I enjoyed it, too, but I think AI has devolved a bit since Red's passing.  The past two years have really negatively affected my impression of Iverson.

From watching AI as a kid when he was playing ball in philly. I was such a fan going to his games and was amazed by his quickness and drive. When they reach the Finals that one year I was there hoping that this was AI's year. Too bad they lost, but he was a one man star on that team. Which he made a success then left because they wanted to "build" a team. Not with him on it, so that got him traded only to be gone to teams like Nuggets, Pistons and Grizzles.

They all hope he will contribute to the already talent on the team. But, like we all know he is a one man star and can't be second because he is a me first kind of player. He did pass and play well with Carmelo, but injuries just have made him less of a star as years went by.

I really would liked to see him YEARS ago when he was in his prime. Just thinking about Paul Pierce and Allen Iverson as the swingmen on the C's is great in my mind. Right now with the way he been declining I would rather just let him go somewhere else.

Something else I remember is Melo and AI were first and second in PPG in Denver. I thought that was amazing because he was still in his prime back then.

I don't think AI has lost anything from when he was with the Nuggets. He just needs minutes.

People look at our Big 3 and see their production go down, but don't realize that their minutes are down and that they have to share the wealth more within a team concept also hurts their own individual productions.

AI on this team would be the same way, he wouldn't need to carry the team.

I just don't think he fits.  The Celtics' offense works so well because everyone is selfless and people don't need to dominate the ball to score.  The offense just comes to them.  Iverson, on the other hand, needs to dominate the ball to be effective.

Maybe you could argue that that type of style could work in short minutes when the starters are on the bench, but I think that you would've had a better case for that last year when the bench sucked.
