I guess you could say this story is not surprising but I sure didn't expect it to happen this early in the season! A week hasn't even gone by and A.I has already quit his team... I guess that if he hadn't been sidelined by injuries the first week, he would have quit the team two games into the season. ::)

He is just showing that his reputation of a cancer is deserved, and I guess he will retire soon. It's too bad since he's still got talent but seriously, he never grew up...

The problem with Iverson is that his individual stats come at the expense of the team.  He does NONE of the little things that produce wins.

The way to add punch to a team is to play team offense: move the ball, move yourself and create open shots for your teammates.  The AI show is counterproductive.

BTW, anyone see him play this year? He still looked the same. I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him if Pierce or Ray went down.

no offense, but Id rather see JR Giddens out there then bring that cancer on this team.

at least Marbury could pretend to be sane for half a season.

Doc is a miracle worker...he got Marbury to stay sane last year in the context of the team...and then you saw how insane he was this past summer...AI actually has some talent left.
If talent is jacking up shots at a 40% clip, then AI is talented.  That doesn't help a team win.  He doesn't contribute anything else either.  I agree with the poster who said he's been highly overrated his whole career and none of bad behavior or lack of winning surprises him.

True.  Every team he joins gets worse and every team he leaves gets better.  When he says all he wants to do is win, and that he's been a winning player his whole career, I just laugh.

I was led to beleive that AI is just away taking care of some problem, i don't think he left the team.

I believe that the personal problem is " Being on this crappy Grizz team and having to come off the bench behind players who have been doing nothing in the NBA. This is a team of scrubs and role players and they're not even giving AI a chance.
He's gone.

Another headcase à la Marbury...so much talent and so little brain... :(

I think Iverson's way smarter than Marbury.
Yup

Sacremento has a serious need for a scorer now that Kevin Martin is hurt. Maybe Memphis and Sacremento can work something out.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Allen Iverson needs to take his sorry, aging, selfish, me-oriented game and act and go away until the Hame of Fame calls him in 6 years. He has been, without a doubt, the best non-unbuntu, individual, team-killing, pound for pound  player the league has ever seen.

But, time has proven that shoot first and dribble around so that you can shoot later, team mate alienating, practice hating uncoachable players just do not get championships in this team and every team in the league has caught on to his pathetic act.

Go away AI. The only people still wanting you back are those teen agers who have grown up wearing your thug-loving jersey displaying it like some sort of gang colors. NBA players don't want you on their team. NBA coaches don't want you on their team. And the last NBA general manager stupid enough to think you would help a young, easily influenced group of very talented young players who are eager to be taken under the wing of an NBA star to be shown the ropes of winning has now also realized just how stupid he is.

TP. I liked AI some years ago, though I thought he was overrated. Now, he should simply leave it and retire

I'm not so sure now...at least Marbury is not trying to play this season and just embarrasses himself on the net. They are both a waste of time now

Assuming this is the end, AI's selection to the Hall of Fame is going to be one of the most controversial of all time.

For the record, I think he belongs in the Hall.  But, Iverson's burned through a lot of his "warrior" mystique with the crap he's pulled in Detroit and Memphis.  I don't doubt that he'll be a first-ballot HOF'er, but be prepared for a metric Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ton of self-rightous basketball columnists becrying his selection, how AI was emblematic of every issue facing the NBA.

There's no question that Iverson's a HOF'er, but in the end, did he do more to help his teams win than Dennis Johnson?

Iverson is incredibly selfish/narccistic.  Marbury is just pure mentally ill.

No.  To take that to another level, Derrick Fisher has done more to help his teams win.

Quite the choice.

It's like "do you want me to cut off your left leg or cut off your right leg?"
