Yep. Let's sign/trade Rondo for Lebron. Lebron (playing point forward) gets to win his championship, and Rondo gets his money.

The big three could make almost any NBA point guard look good. I think Rondo is a nice player but I would not over commit to him. Wasnt to long ago we had players making large salaries that were contributing very little. If possible I would like to see a sign and trade maybe Rondo and Baby for D Wade. If Rondo is combative and overpaid in the future it could really handicap this team.

Rondo contributes very little? Get serious.

By the way, I'm fine with doing a sign and trade of Rondo for Wade or LeBron...

Thats great, maybe we can add in Giddens, Scal, and TA to get both of them in a three team deal.

I disagree with the title of this thread and feel that Rondo's value will continue to go up. While it may be true that he looks better at times due to playing with three hall of fame players the reciprocal of that is that he would probably score more playing with lesser players. When his jumper improves, and it will, he will approach unguardable in certain games. he's already close at times.

I don't see any trade possibilities out there that could land us anything of value. We have the starting SG,SF,and PF plus a reputable C, so the only trade that would make sense would be a great PG...Dwade would be great, but out of the question. No team trades a star PG for a starry PG.  Here's a few ideas...

Rondo on his "max" contract with BBD for Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, and Marc Gasol
Rondo & BBD for Barbosa and Stoudemire
Rondo for JR Smith and Nene
Can't stop, Rondo!

This thread is insane, Rondo's value has not even peaked yet.  Wait till this guy enters his prime at say age 25-28 and you'll eat your words i tell ya.  We once had this young guy who entered the league at Rondo's age  now and 5 yrs later he was already the captain and was handed over the keys to the team by old Larry himself.. Reggie Lewis!....And seriously now, even Doc has said Rondo is going to be Celtic for life, no other PG out there would be better fiyt for this team except maybe CP3 or Deron..Kidd would be ok but he is too old now and so is Nash. No way this team trades Rondo away if it won't be D. Wade.

One of the craziest things I've ever heard.  Rondo only makes the big 3 better.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I don't care how good Rondo is, if we can get DWade for him, I'll help him pack his bags. That not being the case, I would like to lock him up now so that we don't have to hear about this all year and then risk losing him. Celts are at 9 mill a year and Rondo wants 11 mill a year. Is it crazy for me to think that 10 mill should just about do it?

Wrong.  If Rondo gets a jumpshot and shoots respectable from the free throw line, his value goes up even more.

Why do we need to trade someone just because their value is high?  Don't we benefit by keeping, playing him and winning more championships with him?

Absolutely (TP) Bankshot nails it here ... a high value is not open season for trading someone, it's an indication that what you have is worth KEEPING! If we trade this kid, it will be another "Chauncey" move that we'll be regretting for many years to come, as we watch him become one of the premier PG's in the league. Losing Rondo would be very short-sighted, and just plain idiotic. I'm sick of the trade mentality that values money and "worth" above all else ... please bring integrity and loyalty back to the game of basketball. We want more Championships, and this is the guy who will get us there.

Because haven't you heard Rondo has an attitude problem..

Yeah he knows he's great and he's hard headed, which is just about the case for every great player whoever played in the NBA.

Bill Simmons thinks it's strange that they haven't signed him and his inside sources tell him that Rondo and Doc hate each other.  I mean don't you remember Doc doing what every great coach does ( especially an NBA PG )to every great young talented hard headed player in the league?  No?  Well then maybe Bill and the OP are correct, trade him while his value is the highest...

Are you being sarcastic?  I can't tell.

Who cares what Bill Simmons thinks? ::)

Only way I would move Rondo is if we got off to a terrible start this year, Dwade decides that he will walk away from Miami in FA, and we could pull off a trade of Rondo and Ray for Dwade and Chalmers.

Hmm, why wait for us getting a terrible start? Just do that trade already.

Rondo isn't going to get any cheaper as the season goes on.  He is going to break-out this year.  Lock him up now Danny.

Yes, maybe.  Because who blinks first to go to $10M?  If the Cs do it, then does Rondo's camp might think: hmmmm, maybe we can just hold out for a few more hours and get the full $11M?

In any case, it would be nice from a fan's point of view to have an announcement before the start of tonight's game that Rondo has signed a long term contract.

But I will not sweat it either way -- I understand there are risks to both sides of not signing a contract.
Celtics fan for life.
