He definitely looks good and seems to be meshing well with the other players on defense.
One thing that didn't impress me though is he looks like he is done playing in the paint on offense. Tonight he took 7 shots every one at the 3 point line. Even though he is hitting a high percentage, the Celts are already largely a jump shooting team and if the shots aren't falling, who is going to go inside and get the dirty points in the paint? Don't think KG likes doing that and Perkins might not be enough of an offensive threat... we'll see
As long as they are dominating like tonight, though, it doesn't matter, just making a point that i would like for him, and for that matter Garnett as well, to play more in the paint rather than just taking long jump shots
Unfortunately, for some reason we decided to not offer a minimum contract to our best post player (Leon Powe) and instead offered a scalabrine sized 3mil per year contract to an average jump shooter named BBD who likes to bare fist fight with his child hood buddies two days before the first game of the season.
Leon Powe is THAT GUY to take it inside every time. It is great because he either gets fouled, or scores, or both! VERY efficient. Fun to watch too.
KG and Rasheed are NOT that type of player. They can do it if they have to, but they don't like to. Powe is young, and has the muscle to take the beating. KG and Rasheed are not.
Al Jefferson loves to work the post. KG and Rasheed would rather take a fade away jump shot. Its not going to change. We can win without a strong post presence, but it was nice when we had Powe. He would come in with the bench and immediatly, the bigs guarding powe would pick up a couple of fouls. We just don't have him this year, the cavs have him.
ANYWAYS...
Wide open 3s and jump shots are fine with me if we have good rebounders in the game.
Usually these shots are taken on fastbreaks or when we have good position below the basket.
Good news, is if the shots aren't falling, we have plenty of slashers (Rondo, Pierce, Daniels, Allen) and KG, Perk, and Sheed will do some post work if they have to. But the post play and inside game will be secondary to the pick and pops and slashing, because thats what our team is good at this year.
good times.
