  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
I feel like making a comment on that question, but I wont.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

You know, in all honesty I could see this same thing happening to Paul Pierce once he retires. He's big into gambling, too, I think.

How long until 'Toine's championship ring ends up on ebay?

I don't feel bad for Antoine, but I wish this didn't happen.  It's sad, watching people self-destruct.

I don't feel bad for OJ Simpson, Bernie Madoff or John Edwards.  I do, however, feel sympathy for Antoine.  There isn't a 'should/shouldn't' here, I just do.  I think this is an extreme example of a kid who got very rich, tried to help people who he thought were his friends, helped his mother, was probably foolishly generous, very naive, and perhaps agonizingly addicted to gambling. I am guessing the process has been painful and embarrassing. It's a sad and pathetic story, yet I find that I feel bad for some people even when they do stupid things.

I feel bad for the people he owes money to
true.  the real victims.  I'd maybe feel sorry for Antoine if one big screw up lost him all of his money.  But he couldn't have been so blind that he didn't see the money dissappearing slowly throughout the years.  Just totally careless.

That's actually like the most racist thing I've read on CelticsBlog. I'm not even uptight about that kind of thing...but that wasn't funny or creative, it was just blatantly racist.

Dude's not truly broke, im sure he's got a few houses and cars that he can sell off to pay for his debts. He just had a cashflow problem, and now he's gotta sell some of his assets to pay off his debts.

I feel bad for his family and loved ones ... seeing him struggle like this. I hope he gets the wake-up call and changes his ways ... but I don't feel sorry for him.

Oh please.  Antoine didn't take care of himself and was routinely bashed by Celtics fans for being overweight and out of shape. He ate too much junk food and everyone knew it.

He's self-indulgent and undisciplined-- both on and off the court-- which is why he's broke. He wasted his considerable talent just like he wasted his money. I have no sympathy for him at all.

My comment may have been unfunny, but it certainly was not racist.

I guess it depends on the perception and the intent.  Fried chicken has been used as a stereotype for African American diet.  If it was your intent to make a joke about Antoine being fat, that's fine, but maybe be aware that a  "fried chicken" comment might be perceived by some as a knock on his skin color, not his waist size.

Given your response, let's assume it was the latter and move on with the hopes that you'll have a heightened awareness of the PC level of the comment.
