I'd trade BBD for being THIS stupid. Danny better bring in another body because Shelden and Rasheed won't last 6-8 weeks without an injury. Scal, TA, Giddens, Walker, and BBD all can be moved for something...

I grant you we don't know all the facts, but whats stupid about defending yourself when someone attacks you?

I'll be right with you if we find out he swung first, or they were just horsing around, but if a (i assume ex at this juncture) friend of his swung at him, and he hurt himself fending him off....i have a hard time finding fault with big baby.

Just bad luck

Again, above subject to change as we learn more.

Absolutley agree with this stance Crownsy.

Man this sucks though. At least it gives Sheldon a chance at Semi-decent minutes. Who knows, maybe he turns out a better fit in the rotation than BBD?

It would be nice, but I doubt it. Shelden hasn't shown much his whole stint in the NBA, and I highly doubt he breaks out now, but who knows?

I hope the team punishes Davis...I hope he doesn't turn into Tony Allen part 2  >:(

Why?  If it turns out he was defending himself, you really can't expect him to do nothing.

Good call on whomever stated that Williams will get PT over BBD that I poo poo the other day.

Davis is just a big kid and and he complains about wanting more PT and he now he'll have less.  Perfect.

I would assume Doc and Danny aren't too happy with him. Hopefully like he said the story checks out and he was defending himself but, in the grand scheme of things who cares.  Nice way to kick off the season..

Where is Baby's head at?  First he walks to the locker room after the first quarter, now this.  So very immature.  The C's must be furious.  Shelden may get some minutes, but he's a stiff and I don't think he's going to prove much.  Bad timing for Scal to sprain his ankle.

I didnt say Bill Walton and Baby were comparable. In fact I said I was only comparing their relative importance to the team in that the 86 team would not have won it without Walton and if Baby doesnt play this season we will have a hard time winning it this year. Laugh if you want but you know the old saying about the guy who laughs last.

Exactly my point:  their roles and importance are drastically different.

Let's list the differences:
1)  Walton was the first big off the bench
2)  Walton played significant minutes
3)  Walton was easily good enough to be a starter in the league
4)  Walton was statistically very good
5)  Walton had "length", something Doc has specifically mentioned that this team needed the past year

I could go on and on.. the injury to BBD has minimal impact.  An injury to Walton would have had a big impact.

You know, I was thinking (and hoping) for the same thing about Sheldon surprising.  He just might.

Also keep in mind that he's now been practicing with some phenomenal big men (KG, Rasheed) and one very good defensive/physical big man (Perkins).  Practicing with them will inevitably improve his game.. how much remains to be seen.

That was me! I really didn't expect this to be the reason why though. I don't think we miss a beat quite honestly because I don't think that BBD was going to see a ton of time anyway. With Sheed on this squad now he will get the majority of the minutes behind KG and Perk. There are only 96 minutes at those two spots to be had and KG will get low 30's, Perk will get low 30's, and Sheed will get high 20's to low 30's. That's not much left for BBD or Williams unless one of them is in foul trouble. When you also have Scal who can take a few minutes at the PF spot it really won't even matter. I do wish him a speedy recovery though as I admire the work he put into getting himself even more trimmed down this offseason.

Don't know if anyone said this yet (didn't read the entire thread), but the Celtics are rumored to be suspending BBD.  I guess they're doing this so they won't have to pay him?

Any updates on how long Baby can be expected to be out?  I've now heard 6-8 weeks unofficially, which makes waaaaay more sense to me than "several months if not the entire season" for a broken finger.  I broke my finger in college and was back playing sports in 6 weeks - it wasn't the thumb and I wasn't playing NBA ball, but I didn't have the quality of care Baby will get either.  But I haven't heard official word yet either way.

This would make sense - Baby was clearly roughhousing one way or another, and "self-defense" sounded like the sort of thing agents come up with when they only have a few hours to make up an excuse.  It's not gonna make him any more gruntled, though.

TP to you. I should have known better than to put faith in the 23 yr old baby.  To your point I didn't think he was going to get that much time either and Williams will be more than adequate if they need to go 4 deep at PF.

It depends - I broke my 'thumb' playing basketball in high school and was in a cast for 8 weeks.  if you break it high enough on the thumb (or I guess low enough, like closer to your wrist).  it was really below the thumb like in my hand, but they called it a broken thumb.  if that were the case, 8 weeks in a cast, then the various rehab and suhc could be a lot longer (and certainly if he had a 'worse' break than me)... but I am no doctor, so who know.s

TP to you birdbrain.  I've been at odds with you on BBD for quite some time, and I'm surprised to see you write the above.  I must reluctantly admit too that I'm not happy about the injury, and going from BBD to Sheldon is most certainly a downgrade.

Odds that his friend bet if he could punch through some wooden planks?
You can't hurt your thumb punching through planks, just in case you wondered.

Actually, you can ... when making a proper fist, the thumb is what holds the fist together, (wrapping around the lower part of the fingers), and is highly exposed:

 ;)
No, you can't.

The blow is delivered with the first and the second knuckle of your fist. If you're hitting into a flat plank, it's virtually impossible to break your thumb, unless you're purposefully trying to deliver the blow thumb first.

I heard it on 98.5 The Sports Hub, I didn't catch where they heard this so that's as much as I can give right now.
