I didn't see the game last night but for those that did, does anyone feel that either of those teams could have beat a Bama or Texas or even a Florida team?
I think that either of those teams from last night could hang with Alabama and Texas, but beating them in a 60 min. game is another story.

Honestly, I was more scared by the possibility of playing TCU than I was Boise St.   Shows what I know.

Yeah, Boise St. was definitely the forgotten team.  They had some close games against sub-par competition, and a lot of people (including myself) assumed they weren't as good as the other unbeatens.
I think that Cincinnati is the only team that proved on the field that they didn't belong in the discussion.  You don't give up 51 points in a bowl game with or without a coach and remain relevant.

I'm not sure anyone could've beaten that Florida team that showed up in the Sugar Bowl the other night.  They looked phenomenal.

Cincy certainly didn't help themselves, though.  They looked terrible.

So, how should the final rankings turn out?

I'd say:

1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Boise St.
4. Texas

However, I'd understand anybody who voted BSU #2.

I love BSU, but I think you got the rankings correct here ... still something to be said for strength of conference and level of competition, and I think Florida has ultimately got the edge over the Broncos.

1. Alabama
2. Boise State
3. Florida
4. Ohio State
5. Texas

I really think the Big 10 has been getting the shaft this season regarding just how tough their conference and teams have been. Penn State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Iowa all won bowl games over highly ranked teams from power conferences. Northwestern, in one of the most exciting bowl games of the bowl season lost in OT to an SEC team by just three points.

I'm giving 2 loss Ohio State the fourth ranking over Texas because of a much much tougher schedule and a win in their last game.

Finishing the season undefeated and defeating another undefeated team in a BCS bowl does enough in my book to lift Boise State over Florida.

4. We'll never know and we don't know now because the "sport" of college football doesn't have a playoff so all it has is pageantry, which is great, but it doesn't produce a champion any more than a popularity contest does.

realistically Boise St is champs of the WAC, champs of the PAC (they beat champ Oregon), and champ of MTW (the best conference in football. The one that went 4-0 in its bowl games before getting beat by Boise).

Bama is champ of the SEC and they beat a Texas team that didn't have its starting QB for the majority of the game.

It's another typical season in college football.

The actual polls were much kinder to Texas than those of us here. I wonder how much of that was due to McCoy's injury.

I don't think they did anything to embarass themselves last night.  With a backup QB in for almost the entire game, they stayed competitive.  Their defense held up fairly well.  You can make a legit argument that it was a winnable game for them if Colt had played.

Does the runner up to the national title game usually get the second spot in the polls?

Depends on the year but they usually end up at #2 or #3.
