Wow.  Alabama just got very, very lucky.  I'm glad to see it, but it wasn't pretty.

If Alabama had any offense at all they'd be a lock for the title.

Last week I seem to remember a certain high profile mod saying something like "It would be one thing if the top teams struggled while Boise St dominated but that's not happening"

so this week

Florida struggles against powerhouse Miss St

Alabama escapes at home by the skin of their teeth against Tenn

and Boise St flies out to Hawaii and wins 54-9.

What happens? Boise St slips in the rankings

They're going to go to an at large bowl and they're going to beat the snot out of Cincinatti or Bama or LSU and everyone will say "Oh gee. I guess they were good"

yep. I guess they were

Yes, Boise dominated Hawaii, a true power house.

Boise's problem isn't going to be Florida, Alabama, or Texas.  Instead, it's going to be TCU, who may take their at-large bid.  Cincinnati and Iowa also both have undefeated records in stronger conferences.

Again, if Boise St. wants to compete for the national championship, they should join a new conference, or at the very least schedule some legitimate top-15 teams.

I can give you that they should switch conferences, but come on, how many top 15 teams are actually dumb enough to want to play Boise St.?  Umm, maybe one, two in a good year.

Remember when Hawaii had the undefeated season and got pasted by Georgia..well they wanted to play Michigan that season, but Michigan didn't want to play them so they scheduled App. St. instead...that worked out well ::), but point is nobody in their right mind would risk playing Boise.  They should go to the Mountain West or Pac-10, but it is what it is now.

I agree also with your point about TCU.  I've been saying the past 3 weeks to people they're a top 3 team in the country right now, but people just look at me weird and laugh.

We'll see next week.  If Oregon beats USC, Boise St. will rightfully move up.

Also, to be clear, I like Boise St.  However, the most they can ever realistically ask for is to be in one of the lesser BCS bowls.  Why?  Because I think that any team that survives the gauntlet of the SEC or the Big 12 simply deserves it more.  I'd rather see a team with one loss from a power conference play for the national championship than I would see a team that beats up on Tulsa and Hawaii.

This is why I can't take college football seriously; well, that and that most college football fans take it seriously enough for both of us.  The "we don't need a playoff because every game is a playoff!" argument falls apart when you realize ~75% of the teams are out of the national championship race before a single game is played.  We'll never know if Boise St or TCU is good enough to be national champion, or Utah a few years ago, or Boise St a few years before that, because they were DQ'ed before they ever stepped on the field.

College football needs a playoff for a lot of reasons, but mostly to shake the sport-wide Billy Packer mentality and actually give the little guys a shot when they deserve one.

As usual, I was there and you are right.  It was not pretty, but a win is a win in a rivalry game like that.

Alabama is obviously tired and Saban is admitting that the bad offensive play calling, the fatigue and a rested Tennessee team playing very well as reasons we almost blew it.  I hate Tennessee, but hats off to their defense.  Monty Kiffin could coach in the NFL and he can certainly coach in college.

Alabama now finally hits their off week where they can get some rest after 8 straight games before facing LSU.  I'm hoping they find their passing game again before we do slip up and lose one.  The running game is solid, but the play calling has been suspect at best.

As for the Boise St. argument, I'll agree that slipping in the rankings is crazy.  They are winning...period.  However, to assume that they'd beat the snot out of Alabama or anyone else is crazy.  Again, you have to say, "If Boise St. played Alabama's schedule, how would they be doing?"  My guess is that they'd have at least one if not two losses right now.  But again, I can't assume that anymore than eja117 can assume the opposite.  Yes, a playoff system would be great to see, but it's not going to happen.  If I'm Boise St., I'm trying to join a legit conference ASAP.  Hawaii is horrible.  That game should not even be considered as a exhibit in this discussion.

P.S.  After the Alabama game, I went to a KISS concert in Birmingham.  Very entertaining day and makes my sig even cooler now.

Was in South Bend for BC-ND this past weekend.  My 4th time there and everytime is special.

If you're a college football fan, then you have to get to South Bend once in your life to see a game there.  Great experience.

That is definitely a hope of mine.  We start a home and home series with Penn St. next year and rumor has it that ND is on the horizon.

Having been to Penn St.  That really has been a once in a lifetime experience for me.  105,000 people white out, it was nuts.

I'm not entertaining the whole Hawaii wins are worthless because Hawaii is awful talk.

Hawaii went to a BCS bowl 2 years ago. Miss St went to one bowl in 5 years and Flordia just barely beat em and Tennessee had a losing season last year, and Bama needed a miracle play to beat em at home.

Texas beat up on a true sophomore first year starter at QB.

The top 3 didn't get quality wins at all, but didn't slip.

Next week maybe they can just squeak by Iowa St, and Vanderbilt or something while Boise St wins against whoever by 50 points and we can have the same discussion again.

A TCU vs Boise St championship game shouldn't be out of the picture, but it absolutely automatically is even if they both end undefeated and the whole rest of the top ten finishes with 2 losses and a bunch of close wins (like the ones they already have)
