Now, im of the opinion that if you are going to hold defensive players to the fire for even looking at a QB wrong, that this should be a suspension.

If your going to tell guys on one side of the ball that illegal low hits are going to be treated harshly, then make it consistent.

On a farve related note, what a jerk. Now, im sure brett, who went out of his way to mention to the MNF crew that he had cracked ribs before this game (what a warrior ::)), so he'd have an excuse in case he played poorly i guess, wasen;t trying to purposely injure wilson. But to throw a crackback block below the knees on a guy who isn't even looking? in a preseason game no less?

That would get the stuffing beat out of you at the high school level when i played, never mind the NFL. Brett had to know that's a high risk block. You hit guys up high on crack backs to protect there knees.

I know Brett's going to turn on the tear works and talk about how "He just plays hard" and "he didn't mean for him to get hurt". All true, it's still a dirty hit. That's the kind of dirty hit you saved for someone you realllllyyy hated when i played. I only did a similar block one time, and that was on a kid who speared our QB. I felt bad about it for weeks when they had to take him off.

I only hope wilson is allright and the NFL sticks to its guns.

Dirty, dirty play.

update: here's what farve said

Believe me, I hope [Wilson's] OK,” Favre said. “I hope it didn't look as bad on film as it may have seemed. But my intention, believe me, was not to hurt anyone, including myself. Percy was running my way. I was out there. There's going to be those people who say you should have done nothing, [just] get out of the way….”
Hello!!!!
“… But I think had I not blocked anyone and just gotten out of the way, and Percy gets hit and gets hurt, I think it looks worse.”

No brett, i don't think you should have done nothing, i think you should have thrown a legal block above the shoulders, like everyone else on the play. You don't need to pancake the guy like a 350 pound O-linemen, just slow him down.

instead He threw himself at wilson's knees. there is no way brett farve, who has played this game for 20+ years, thinks that's a legit block on a guy who isn't looking. There's a reason the official immediately threw the flag and the entire crowd went off on him.

If i knew that was a dirty as hell play as a high school football player, save me the "wow, you guys think chop blocking a guy who isn't looking below the knees isn't kosher?" angle football jesus.

OK good so league recognizes he was in the wrong at least.  Really be a shame if an old fool who doesnt belong on the field ruins a young guy's career pulling bush league moves like that.

This whole is woa is the quarterback bs has got to stop. The average NFL Qb is like 6ft 3 240 lbs. They're bigger than the rbs and as big as the TEs and lbs

the only reason I buy into is that for the most part QBs are stationary targets whereas RB's and TE's are either trying to run away or run over defensive players.  But ya I do hear ya, sometimes it goes to far.

Agreed.  And making horsecollar tackles illegal irks me as well.  It's a violent game.  Hamstringing the defense doesnt improve the quality of the game.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
There are legal ways to make the hit that Brett Farve made. The correct form is Brett's right shoulder on the other man's left thigh, then extending fully.

Brett hit his left shoulder on the man's right thigh, then he rolled into the man's left knee, instead of extending fully.

I don't think he should've tried to hit him straight up, he does need to minimalize his risk, but he should've hit him correctly. No suspension nec., but def a penalty deserved.

It would be great if they be great if they suspended him for the entire season, so he could be well rested fro next year's unretiremnt.

I just love the phrase "bush league".  Didn't E-House use that phrase when slapped up side the head by Alston?  Great phrase.

Im not going to defend what he did. It was a dumb move on his part. But I dont think he was intentionaly trying to hurt the guy. Let the hate flow, but guess what, the viks are going to be very good this year and all you haters are going to be very, very wrong.

Oh and btw, before you go off on what a cheap dirty player he is, dont forget your team isnt made up of choir boys either. I believe it was your #1 reciever who ran a traffic cop over in Minn.
Back to wanting Joe fired.
