I'll say two things, because 99% of the membership doesn't know what's really happening in this thread:

1) When somebody's friend is disciplined, the first reaction of that person is to attack the staff.  When that disciplined person had a network of friends "off the blog", the anti-staff reaction is likely to be even worse.  Unfortunately, those upset members are not privy to 100% of the facts.  Rather, they're criticizing the staff based upon a very jaded viewpoint.  When the member who was disciplined happens to have several vocal friends on the blog, threads like this happen.

2) It has come to my attention that certain vocal members are disappointed that they, or their friends, were passed over for mod status.  My reaction to that is, threads like this show exactly why those people would not make good moderators.

Celticsblog is not a club, where the most popular people are made part of the staff.  It's not a democracy, either.  We take the process of adding to the staff very seriously.  The members we have chosen as mods are active, objective, reasonable, and dedicated to Celticsblog.  There are reasons why certain members have gotten passed over.  If they (and they alone, not their friends) would like to address those reasons, they can contact a member of the staff.  However, if you ask, please be prepared to receive a candid answer.  There are a lot of good, friendly, capable members who don't have what we feel it takes to join the staff.  Rather than focus on one's own personal gain, I wish some had just decided to welcome Fafnir, an excellent, excellent member of this community.

So, basically, if you're going to leave the blog because one of your friends was disciplined, or because your buddies weren't made a moderator, that's your right.  However, I'm not going to beg you to come back because of it.  Sorry if that hurts anybody's feelings, but that's my position on it.

Wow this is crazy. If somone is that broken up about not being a mod, they need some help. Now thats not to take away anything that the mods do here because it can't be easy. To posses the knowledge of the game and dedicate the time necessary to this site is appreciated by myself and others who love to come here. But at the end of the day there are other things in life to be more concerned about. This is a place to come for entertainment, not to take this serious. This keeps up Jeff is going to have rename the site with greek letters and call it a sorority. Then the fights over nothing will at least be expected.

And people wonder why he's angry  ;D

Roy, do Mods of the ability to read PM's? For instance, if I send a PM to cdif911 can you read it?

of course not - PMs are private unless they are forwarded to someone else

C'mon Jeff - everything is in the database...  Whether or not you bother to query for it is another thing  ;)
God bless and good night!

Hahaha, TP - Phi Celta Blogga is officially in business!  First step, everyone line up so Roy Hobbs can use a Sharpie to circle the "problem areas" in your sig.  Next, all rushees have to clean up the Super Off Topic thread while doing funnels of green Koolaid.  Tomorrow we'll have the boys from Red's Army over for punch and pie.

What makes you think the staff has access to that information?  I can say that I personally do not, and none of the people below me do, either.  We're not messing with the data base, and wouldn't have the expertise to if we wanted to.  Maybe one of the SBN webmasters could, but I can't see what gain they'd have in doing so.  They're entirely separate from the blog.

BTW this thread is mucho entertaining.

And Roy - you may want to lower your claim that "99.9%" of the membership does not find a good amount of moderator posts arrogant and condescending.  I'm not instigating or calling anyone out in particular, but I would modestly lower that estimate a good deal for accuracy...
God bless and good night!

Personally I like it, mainly because I can keep forums organized. After being an admin and moderator in other forums, it's a bit hard to get used to how other forums operate, particularly the thread naming schemes, how forum sections are organized, how there's an abudnace of topics discussing the same thing, etc.

You really, really hate that don't you BC?

Is that last part from amovie or something? I'm hearing a southern accent, mocking someone.

Punch and pie is from the South Park movie, and other than the general tone of the post, no mockery intended - punch and pie is awesome.

No, I'm not.  I could, but I'm not.  Your response to CM - who was smart and stopped posting in the thread - simply dismissed and marginalized his opinion, and labelled him as a .1% minority.

With my voicing my opinion that I agree with his statement, I simply pointed out that you might want to reconsider that percentage.
God bless and good night!

You know, if all these people felt so strongly about this stuff, and really felt it was ruining the blog, I wonder why they couldn't just shoot me a PM, or wd, or Redz or anyone..and just say "I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but you're acting like a tool". I'm a big boy. I wear big boy pants, I can take this stuff. We can all take this stuff.

But instead we have grand gestures, hand wringing..instead of actual progress, and adult interactions..we get a show, we got public potshots, and we get ultimately blind-sided. Dark_Lord, a poster who i respect very much, a guy who I would never hesitate to 'reach across the aisle' to talk to if I had a concern, said there was a divide. Well, its not a one way street, although i wasn't even really aware there WAS a street until a couple of days ago.

YES. Wait. Does maybe the hannibal lecter character say it too in the toilet paper episode, or does the mole say it? i keep hearing a weird accent in my head.

Maybe its just the way I think.
