What would happen to our rookie if we didn't sign him? Would another team pick him up? Europe? D-League? Who knows, we may be his only shot. I'm guessing that not a lot of other teams know his talent or potential.

Can't we just assign him to d league if he shows enough promise?

Depends on what you mean by not sign him.

We could have him go to Europe to gain experience and save a roster spot.  We'd still retain his rights.

We could try him out and just waive him.  he could sign elsewhere then.

If we just don't sign him or waive him, I'm not sure if he's eligible for next year's draft again.  I believe that used to be the league rule but I'm not sure if that is still the case.

He's got to be on the 15-man roster if we want to assign him to the D-League.

If he goes to Europe, we retain his rights.  If he gets invited to camp and gets cut, he's a free agent.

I hope we sign him, i think he could earn a backup PG role. Esspecially if we're counting on Daniels to do alot of ball handling.

The scenario I see as most likely for Lester Hudson is to be signed by the Celtics to a non guaranteed contract. This provided he plays well enough and is healthy enough in training camp. He then reports to the D league for a while to be further evaluated.

The only other thing that keeps him off the roster is if a decent quality (veteran) PG becomes available that Danny/Doc decides will fit with us. So far that player hasnt materialized in the past two seasons. We did keep Gabe Pruitt last year after all....

I tend to agree.  I expect him to be in camp, with perhaps another guard or two to keep the competition tight (plus probably R. Swift, just for good measure).

I just had a horrible thought

if Swift injures someone in training camp, Danny is going to get a piece of my mind for loving that clunky bugger too much

I think swift is still worth a better look.  Granted I don't know why any prof. athlete would show up for summer league or anything else for that matter out of shape.
Thanks for the answers on dleague, so if he's on the 15 man roster and with a cheap contract we can send him to d league then cut him later on?
Either way I'd expect giddens, tony and maybe walker to be moved.  Daniels makes tony gone and unless giddens shows me something i really haven't noticed I'd expect a lottery team trade for him

Don't understand the fascination with Swift. Seemed like Fasekas was far more productive yet he never gets a mention. I think Hudson will be in camp to be an active body against Rondo. I have not heard anything about Fasekas; but the Shelden Williams and BBD signings suggest that we have seen the last of both Swift and Fasekas.

I think there will be additional players signed to non-guaranteed contracts for training camp.  Danny seems to do it every year...

We will also be watching the other teams training camp 'castoff' list for a player Danny likes better than Hudson if one materializes. This is another reason to have Hudson non guaranteed or even insigned until the end of camp.

I know it an old song, but I wish we could/would trade Tony Allen. It would mean a possible roster spot to keep Hudson if he is decent or just an upgrade of any kind. A draft pick? Anyone?

The celtics will definitely part with one of scal or TA + giddens or walker for daniels.

Celtics will give lester hudson a non guaranteed contract and he will exceed expectations and make the team imo.

The only thing he doesn't know right now are the plays other than that he has everything to be considered a 1st rate pick. One of the best scorers of last years draft no doubt

The thing is i know what could happen, but in his own specific case what would most likely happen? That's my question.

I started a thread about the Europe misinformation a while back. There is little reason to think that Hudson would allow us to retain his rights be going to Europe.

I have posted this quite a few times, but I never saw any responses:

http://www.nbpa.org/cba_articles/article-X.php#section4

The likely move for Hudson is wait for an offer from the Celtics, and when there is one, take it. If the Celtics tender an offer on time and Hudson is persuaded to not accept it but to instead go to Europe, then I believe we would retain his rights. I just don't see why he wouldn't just accept the tender instead of going to Europe.

Players aren't going to do us favors. There needs to be guarantees for the player, but Hudson may not be worthy of a guarantee at this point. I don't see how there is any chance of us 'sending' him to Europe and retaining his rights.

If he wants to go to Europe, why not wait out the Celtics before going so that he can be a FA in the NBA if he tries again to make the league?

Seems to me he will either get a contract or become a FA. A partially guaranteed contract would make the most sense if we sign him.
