And please, please, a limit on scrolling text messages and putting stuff in colors that colorblind people have no chance of reading.

A handful of people have commented that the scrolling text bothers them.  Can I ask why?  If it's a post just meant for fun, why can't people ignore them?

Most of the criticisms of the draft I've understood, but I just don't get that one.  If Edgar (or whoever) wants to scroll to his heart's content, I think he should be able to.  Personally, it cracks me up; it's kind of his "thing".

I don't like having to wait to read things.  If it's one or two words scrolling, then that's fine, but when you throw a few sentences on there I typically have to wait for the whole thing to come across and more often than not I end up ignoring it. Plus, on my laptop it generally seems to take a while to load, especially when it has pictures.

I'd definitely agree that most of the stuff Edgar puts in scrolling text can be ignored without too much harm.  ;)

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.

A fair point.  My bigger problem is not being able to read text (or know that text exists) because of color issues.  That may be limited to just me though.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

Roy I believe you have a strong influence.

I really have no idea what is going on with the CB draft (barely understand what it is to be honest), and just came across this post.  But I just thought I would chime in.  Not to give away trade secrets, but I can guarantee you that Roy does not have much influence over the other mods opinions.  We all respect him, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that there is not one mod on this staff that does not think completely for themselves, and does not have incredibly strong personal opinions that could never be swayed by Roy, or anyone else.  This goes for the CB draft, and everything else on this site.

They give me migraine headaches.

Seriously, I'm not kidding.

I'm on line doing work or reading or on CB all the time and as long as I watch what I eat  my migraines are fine.(No chocolate, caffeine, etc.) But something about trying to read a post while having that scrolling text or pictures on the screen at the same time just triggers them after a while.

During the draft I tried to read just about every post as you never know what someone was advertising but the scrolling text was giving me migraines so bad that it took me days to get rid of them.

I'm certainly not making light of what sounds like a horrible situation Nick, but if you skipped edgars scrolling text, in the last 2 years you might have missed:

-942 announcements that Eddy Curry was available

- that Spencer Hawes looks like a christian rock star

- and a few thousand reminders that a team wit 18 starters (Gerald Green starting in the IBL counts, right?!?) Will win every game!!!!!!

:)

It's not skipping them, it's that they are still on the screen while I am reading other posts. I ignored most of his posts. But, I have a 22 inch monitor I am on most of the time in my office and I get a lot of the page on the monitor. Sometimes there's so many scrolling posts that trying to read other posts without having a scrolling post on the screen at the same time is impossible.

That sucks Nick. I have a brother and a GF who get migranes so I know how bad they can be.

But I don't think we should be telling people how they should format their posts beyond the general CB rules.

Silly Rebus, Roy already had him.

Take a look here if you have any doubts!

Nor do I.

But Roy asked why people were asking for them to be limited. Some may just have had personal preferences being the reason, I had a legitimate reason. I did find a way to limit the exposure of them by editing the size of the window I had Firefox open in though.

But at first, it was very, very bothersome.

To be honest, I agree with Nick. I'm not saying they should be banned, but I honestly kinda got headaches too. I don't think they should be banned, but Nick I definitely sympathize with your position as I hated the scrolling text as well.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
The alliances I was referring to is the "I'll vote for your team if you vote for mine." that went on leading up to the CF. Those numbers were different, my attempt was to show the potential bias and/or flaw that exists in our game. Roy I believe you have a strong influence.

Wanna know how many Mods voted for my team in the playoffs? 2. Me, and wdleehi.

How many mods voted for me to win my division? 0.

How many mods voted for me to have the 4th seed? a few, maybe. But seriously I think its closer to 2.

These talks about alliances and treaties and back room deals or whatever, its annoying. Maybe they're out there, but I'm not a part of one, and if the evil diabolical genuis commonly referred to as Roy Hobbs formed an axis of evil, I haven't heard about it. In fact, I bet no one has heard about it, because it doesn't exist.

These paranoia scenarios are a good way to ruin a good game. One thing I would really like to see next year is if all 30 GM's approach the game from the stand point that its a freaking game, and not worth the risk of heart attack that goes with the stress some of the GM's have put on themselves over the past 3 weeks.

I had no problem with the larger size text or different colored text. As a matter of fact, I liked the use of the colored text to enhance points in advertisements put out by GMs regarding availability of players or picks for trades. But the scrolling text was 95% of the time used as hype and hype alone.

All I ask is for some discretion in it's use. Without that concession, the game might a little to painful for me to participate in next year. But when someone posts a scrolling post and then someone replies to it by hitting the reply button so the reply has a scroll and then 5-6 other posts hit in response with scrolls and you have 6-8 scrolling texts on age after page after page after page, it gets to be much.

If this is some type of CBNBA Draft tradition, that's fine, maybe I won't participate next year or I will just be the assistant commissioner if they will have me. But if people can just say the will have a bit more discretion regarding it, I'll be back. I had a ball.
