If Leon gets an offer, would Danny match?

I'll be extremely disapointed if I ever see Leon Powe in another NBA jersey.

Rumours are flying about the Cavs, even the Lakers!!... Do you think Danny could stop that from happening?
I think Leon was really upset with Danny because of this "we don't have space for you now and we only have two years to win" talk.
Because of that, he probably wouldn't accept coming back...

He could call Leon and say we'll give you the same offer, but he is not a restricted free agent. So it is unlikely.

No we didn't extend him the QO, so we cannot match any contract he accepts.

Though if we had given him the QO, he'd have ended up playing for it. As is he's likely to take a minimum deal with potentially team options on it for a future year.

Because he is coming off an injury that ussually takes close to 2 years before players return to form, if they ever do, and they need every roster spot they can get this season to go for another championship.

Yeah, he may return this season, but the chances of him having any of his explosiveness (and therefore being effective) are incredibly slim.  So unless he is willing to give a team option for the second year at the vet minimum (which he reportedly is not interested in doing), then it makes no sense to sign him.

Cleveland has a few more spots open. Plus they have a front line that can withstand missing Powe(5th big man) for most of the season. He has tons more of potential still, but its sucks that AINGE has given up on him. Too bad. But if we're running with the whole BIG 3 or nothing idea, then we better stack our team up with winners. Bring in Bowen, sign Daniels and trade Tony Allen to anywhere that'll take him. Keep Scal as our swinging big man pf or w/e.

I don't know if they are.  They have been having talks, but I am not sure if they have seen the medical records yet.

Ultimately, I would be shocked if any contending team gives him what he wants (a second year at his option).

Emotions out of this, it's just a smart move to sign Leon cheap.  If Davis walks, Powe can arguably give us just what Baby would come playoff time.  Granted we'd have to make do until then, but who cares?   This team is so good that even with Scal is the 4th big, they'd still win 65+ games. 

I just don't see how Powe at a cheap contract goes wrong.

I agree that if he would take the minimum, and give a second year at the team option, it is a no brainer.  That doesnt seem to be the case though.

I wonder if something is wrong behind the scenes that we don't know about with Leon that has led to this "We have no interest in bringing back Leon Powe, we are moving on!" message and attitude that the Celtics front office has been sending out all summer? It seems strange to me that Doc comes out every chance he gets and praises Leon but they didn't even want to extend him the courtesy of a small contract while he rehabs.

I wonder if the agent said or demanded something that didn't sit well or if the C's medical experts advised against signing him or if Leon just isn't the saint we all think he is and he has alienated himself out of an opportunity to return.

The whole situation with Leon just seems way to Belichickian to me and that hasn't been this franchise's history. Strange.

There is no chance that the Celtics would re-sign Powe, or match any offer, said another source. The team has made it clear that it is moving on, despite Powe's helping the Celtics immensely during their Finals series victory over the Lakers and Coach Doc Rivers's lobbying on his behalf. Rivers said during the playoffs that he hoped the team could find some way to keep Powe, a restricted free agent. But to do so, the already tax-paying Celtics would have to shell out an additional $5 or $6 million in salary and luxury taxes for a player they also aren't sure will be able to play. NBA.com

I really wanted to resign Powe to a small contract to give him time to return then see if he still can produce and resign him to larger contract next year. But it looks like Ainge doesn't want his name tarnished by not producing MULTIPLE championships with the Big 3's declining time frame. Powe is good, but we need someone on the court NOW and Powe supposedly wants to get paid now even though he just suffered a career effecting injury. I hope Powe and his agent come to their senses and he comes back.
