Odom returning to the Lakers - C's need to sign Baby

Isn't Hollinger the same guy who said the Celtics were not the best team in the NBA last year when they were 27-2, and scrubs better than Pierce and Allen? Let's ignore him.

Sounds like they got him for a pretty good deal, too...this sorta bums me out- was really hoping he would go to Miami and Lakers fans would be disappointed. They definitely have upgraded this year...and they were champions last year, so hopefully the Celtics can keep pace this season...but no, I don't think the Celtics are necessarily 'better' anymore now that they got Odom.

Still, it makes no sense whatsoever to say that a 27-2 team is not the best in the NBA.  It's almost like anyone arguing that the Bulls team that won 70 would lose in the Finals.

If you're implying that the Odom signing can only be matched by us signing BBD then I'm thoroughly disheartened.  Celtics fans can't actually think this, can they?  Like the time I saw "No BBD = Lakers dynasty". 

Odom is someone who will play 30+ minutes on the Lakers, and rightfully so. 

BBD is someone who is the 5th big (behind Perkins, Sheed, KG, and Scal... yes scal) who should get 6minutes a game on average. 

IMO the Odom signing and the BBD signing are completely independent of eachother.  If I'm wrong then we'll be seeing Miami throwing tons of money at BBD to make up for losing out on Odom.  Do you think that will happen?

Which is better, a team that wins 20 games by 20 points, loses 6 games by 2 points, and wins another 6 by 2 points.

Or a team that wins 30 games by 2 points and loses 4 games by 10 points.

Agreed our signing of Sheed and KG's health are what will allow us to beat the Lakers. Baby's role as fourth big is not as crucial as those two things. If BBD becomes our third or higher big we're already screwed.

The error from the poster who said Scal was better than Baby wasn't as far off there as when he said that the 5th big man will get 6 mpg.  The real truth is that the 4th big man will probably get 6 mpg, and probably less in the playoffs.

That's why we don't "need" to sign Baby as a reaction to Odom.  Unless there's an injury to the team, Baby will probably play a minimal role at best in a Celtics/Lakers series. 

The best thing the C's can do now is get the best possible players to backup the 1-3 positions.  Those are upgradeable positions that could contribute big minutes in the playoffs.

I wouldn't say we NEED Baby; we need a second solid big off the bench after Sheed -- whether that's Baby or someone else -- and a 5th big as an emergency fill-in, which could very well be Scal, even if we trade him.

That said, I was pulling for Odom to go to Miami, because it would've hurt the Lakers, but having him back there just means that it'll be all the more sweet when Boston beats the Fakers in next season's Finals.

TP, I've been saying the same thing about Baby and his minutes. We won't have many minutes for him to play after KG, Perk, and Sheed get theirs. If we add anymore players to this team outside of Daniels they should be guys who are willing to ride the bench while staying ready to play if called on (Joe Smith & Bowen come to mind).

Living in LA, there is no doubt in my mind that Lakers fans respect KG. He is better than Gasol on both ends of the court.

Bynum and Perk pretty much cancel each other out head to head.

The battles between Boston and LA are gonna be epic. Its payback time after getting swept in the regular season this past year.
