  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
So Portland can't stop Chris Bosh with any one player. How does Houston stop the height from any two of Portland's bigs? Bosh can't cover both guys at once, right?

Also, how does Joe Johnson stack up against Redd/Manu? Ellis on Bibby? I'd think Monta would have the advantage there.

just for the record Mike Bibby outplayed every single PG last year.

yes

His backup is Delonte West

3-4-2008 (The last time out two point guards met.)

Monta Ellis 20 points .526 FG% 7 REB 4 AST 3 STL 1 BLK 2 TO
Mike Bibby 5 points .286 FG% 3 REB 6 AST 1 STL 0 BLK 3 TO

Bibby's defensive troubles on the perimeter got so bad last season that Woodson tried having the 6'2" Bibby guard opposing teams small forwards but that only left him exposed on post ups...

Also, how does Joe Johnson stack up against Redd/Manu? Ellis on Bibby? I'd think Monta would have the advantage there.

I looked at the numbers above; Redd kills Johnson, and he's done it 11 out of the past 12 matchups.  I wasn't expecting that.

As for Bosh, if he's matched up on Edgar's power forwards (since those were the stats referenced), who the heck is guarding Edgar's centers?  I thought the Anthony Randolph thing at center was meant to be comical.

I think stopping Ellis is a small problem (although the stats above are misleading, as Ellis played far more minutes than Bibby did) but if Edgar is winning the matchup at 4 out of 5 starting positions, and has a deeper bench, I think he'll be okay.

As I see it, Shaq neutralizes (and actually outplays) Bosh, and Redd neutralizes (and actually outplays) Johnson.

That leaves it as:

J.O./Rashard/Manu/Bibby/Miller/Delonte/Gomes  vs. Monta Ellis, Anthony Randolph, Grant Hill, Nocioni and a bunch of scrubs and rookies.  I like Edgar's chances.

Edgar has a point though. I don't need stats to tell me that Monta Ellis and Joe Johnson are better than Micheal Redd and Mike Bibby.

The center point (which I touched on first, way to be original there, Norman Dale) is a big one for me though. Sure, Houston can run Portland out of the gym for one game..maybe two..and maybe those two are even landslides, but can they do it 4 times out of 7?

Yeah, Houston really isn't a good team, but the one area they definitely can't match you is height.

Also, Joe Johnson is supposed to be one of his big advantages, but Michael Redd actually outplays him.

So, Shaq neutralizes (and actually outplays) Bosh, and Redd neutralizes (and actually outplays) Redd.

Yeah, you wouldn't think so, but Redd has outscored him 11 out of the past 12 games.

Whoa whoa whoa! Come on. Shaq does not neutralize Bosh, he can't defend him if he tried! Bosh's game is everything within the 3 pt circle, shaq can't touch that.

Nobody on Portland's roster can account for the best WNBA player the NBA has to offer (well, you called him Ru-Paul, WW).

That said, Bosh can only cover one of the two or possible three bigs Portland is puttin on the floor. how does this work from a defensive standpoint for Houston?

Here's what I don't understand:  if stats lie, why have they lied 11 of the past 12 times?  If Johnson is much better than Redd, why doesn't he show it when the two go head to head?

I think you're underrating Redd, if you think Johnson is clearly better.  Redd's an all-star and an Olympian (something Johnson hasn't been, by the way.)
