The day Scal leaves the Celts will be the saddest day of my life

Even if he is involved in a trade that largely favors us, i still might shed a tear.  It hasn't really donned on me until right now that he really could be leaving.  I've even been a vocalist for a Scal and Tony trade.  He is still my favorite player though.

If we trade away Scal we could easily bring him back if he gets bought out. Scal is loved here in a way that no other fan base would love him. He could conceivably make more money by getting bought out then signing a vet min deal. Don't shed a tear, my friends.

Yeah i agree with you. He's been a favorite of mine for a while. He gets alot of grief from the fans for "underperforming" for a guy that makes about 3 million a year but the way i look at it is that he does not play a whole lot but when he does he plays with his heart on his sleeve and is just a guy that genuinely loves to compete. you always want a guy like that on your side. AND his headband makes him look like Jackie Moon which is an added bonus.

I will really miss scals since it's unlikely we keep him past this summer

I have a feeling that Scal is going nowhere this season, unless Danny really needs to use him in a trade. But I think Danny is quite content with keeping him around. Maybe even resign him next year.

Scal is the Celtics Mascot he's not going anywhere. Most likely he'll get bought out and return if we trade him. But I think Pruitt, Tony, & Giddens are out the door for Daniels.

I'll definitely shed some tears... of joy. The guy has been a nonfactor since the day he signed. He's good for a laugh or two, but usually it's at the expense of the Celtics. He is decent at times, but no way is he worth even a fraction of what he is getting paid.

If you're a celtics fan, you should want to see the team win. The Celts could have done a whole lot better with that 15 million then what they did.

I sense alot of sarcasm in this thread.  The fact is, Brian Scalabrine is not a mascot, except to those fans who are rental fans. The ones who just showed up on this site when we got KG and Ray, and started competing again.  That's when the rental fans started showing up.

For most of the rest of us, while we recognize Scal's limitations, we also appreciate his contributions. Such as when he filled in admirably in '08 when KG was out, and the team did not skip a beat. And most of last season, when he gave meaningful minutes on both ends of the floor, hitting key shots, always hustling, always knowing how to space the floor. Why do you think, despite his athletic limitations, that Doc plays him so much?  Because he knows his limitations, plays his role, supports his teammates, and rarely screws up.

He has never once complained about his minutes, has been at times mocked by the "fans" in the Garden who yell at him to shoot a 3 in garbage time each time he touches the ball.  Those "fans" are pathetic.

I have followed Scal all 4 years with the Celtics, and it took me two years to "get" why Danny signed him in the first place.  Now I get it, and I, for one, will truly miss him if he goes.

You can miss him for the intangibles that he brings, but you cannot miss him for anything that he brings on the floor. He's just not very athletic out there and isn't a threat. I dont like when the bandwagoners egg him on to shoot or laugh in his face either. I'm usually yelling the opposite thing, saying get rid of the ball.

If Scal was any good, we wouldn't have had a problem with bigs coming off the bench once KG went down THIS year. Scal will barely touch the floor this year now that Rasheed is the first guy coming off the bench. He might get garbage time minutes, or minutes when Rasheed gets suspended, etc. but to know that he has made 3 million dollars for the past 5 years for being "a good guy" is painful.

Hey Ainge, I'm a pretty good guy, and would be a great teammate. Think about it!

The people who make fun of him are just jealous that Scal  makes millions that he worked for. Just because he hardly plays in game doesn't mean that he doesn't show tremendous dedication. He works hard in practice and is a good team mate from what I've heard. That's all he needs to do to be worth his price tag IMO.
