Whether or not those comments are really Baby's makes little different to me. I, myself, just don't think he wants to play in the Celtic Green. The signing of Rasheed was probably a perceived smack in the face. Baby thinks he's better than being a fourth big man, especially monetarily. So I'm not going to miss the guy. Let him go where he can start and earn x amount of dollars. It's what he wants, and it is what he should want.

The only word that matters here is Monetarily.  Baby wants to be paid, plain and simple.  And I think he is getting frustrated, because his RFA status may be getting in the way of him getting paid by other teams.

Can we do a sign and trade if he signs an offer sheet?

No, once he signs an offer sheet, our only options are to match it (in which case, I believe he cannot be traded for 1 year), or let him go.

True, but if another team makes him an offer he doesn't like, he can refuse the offer and have his agent try to facilitate a sign and trade to get him a bigger deal. Say Utah offers him $3M, Boston could sign him for $4M and trade him. Baby gets a bigger deal, Utah gets their guy, and Boston gets something else in the trade that they want.

I think.

I could see BBD slipping through the cracks and resigning here for the cheap.

I think he would have to take a backseat role this year due to the wallace signing, and baring a substancial injury, i dont see him getting much more than spot minutes.

While i would love this scenario to work, i highly doubt it would go that smooth.

I love BBD, but i wouldnt be opposed to keeping him till the trade deadline, and if wallace, perk, and kg's health is good, shopping him for a solid wing, pg backup.

Just another chip for Ainge to play with at the time when expiring contracts are worth the most.

I don't know if it's his RFA status that is having an effect.  Worst-case scenario for a team that signs him is that the Celtics match the offer.  But as of right now, the C's aren't making a very strong indication that they would match a legit offer.  I don't think teams out there are going to have to overpay to get him, or at least not overpay too much, so I don't know if his RFA status is the major stumbling block.  I think it's a combination of teams saving money (both due to the economy and due to the 2010 free agents), and that it is possible his asking price is way too high.

Well, I think there is plenty of reason to think the C's would match a contract up to $3 million or so.  And I think if it is not much more than that, it could go either way, and would be risky if the team had multiple targets, because they would have to wait for 7 days to know if the C's would match.

Now, if a team is willing to offer him $4 million per year, then they can probably feel comfortable about it.  I just have a feeling that if there was a team that wanted him that badly, they would have already given him the offer sheet.

I think most of the teams agree that he is not worth much more than $3-3.5 million right now, and that is right in the danger zone, so they are instead looking at other options.

Although I do think the economy, and next year's FA market has a lot to do with the fact no one seems willing to roll the dice enough to blow him away with a deal.  But I think if he was an UFA, he would be signed already.

Only thing I hope for is if they let Baby go, they should re-sign Powe to a minimum contract, why let two quality big men go?
True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!

I agree.  Although I think at this point, it is tough to call Powe a "quality big man", purely because we have no idea what he is going to come back like, and he didn't have a lot of leeway even before his injury.  I loved him, and thought he was a very good role player, but if you take away his explosiveness, I think he could disappear fast.

But I would still rather he was filling a roster spot, just for the hope that he will come back healthy, than someone like Giddens or Pruitt, if they don't earn a spot in the rotation.

You're right, assuming he would be willing to sign for $4 mil or so.  I am not sure what he has been asking for, I wonder how many teams have heard his pay request and said "thanks, but no thanks."  I am sure the numbers are out there I unfortunately haven't had a chance to double check.

"now they don't want to pay me"????

A professional athlete during negotiations says this?  I doubt this.  If it was him, Danny should strap on his kicking boots right now and punt.

Wojo is reporting:

YahooSportsNBA The Pistons have traded Arron Afflalo and Walter Sharpe to Denver for a future 2nd rounder, clearing $1.8 million in space, a source says.
3 minutes ago from web

Could Detroit be clearing that space for Baby?

they better clear more than that or they wasted the time.

danny will match what is in essence a LLE offer happily.

even if they offer 3 i think we match.

IT's going to take 3.5+ from a team to get the celts to seriously consider not matching.

what does baby expect? does he expect boston to make the first offer? i think he needs to be frustrated with other teams not making him an offer...danny is going to wait until there is an offer in place..then hopefully match

Who cares what BBD thinks (regardless of authenticity of tweets).

Look at Anderson Verajao. He just signed an extension with the Cavs after they played hardball with him as a RFA.

Business is business.

Hey guys as you know Twitter is the new thing. Well I follow Big Baby and based on his latest string of Tweets this morning, it appears like his days as a Celtic may be coming to an end. He goes as far as to say that he feels he is not important to the Celtics, but he was important when Leon and KG went down. I don't know how I feel about him taking shots at the organization. Its a fact of life. They wanted and needed to get Rasheed Wallace. All of their focus was going towards getting him under contract. Now they are looking to fill out the roster. Heck, DA drafted Baby in the 2nd round and gave him a shot. If you feel like you are not going to get enough money here, then just say thanks and move on. Here is the link:

If it's true then the Celtics are gonna get a rep for making guys feel not wanted.
It's more than likely some stupid publicity thing though.
