Yeah, I'm getting tired of this Hill story. I understand that it's a tough decision for him though, and I will respect his choice but I just wish this story ends tonight (and the better way would be in green :P).

Grant Hill's 37 and has a wife and kids. If he chooses another team it's not because he "doesn't care about a ring" it's because he made that decision for family reasons. People do it all the time. Likewise his wife might tell him this morning that he should go to Boston. Wives make sacrifices too.

Grant Hill happens to be an NBA player, and the ultimate goal of NBA players is a championship, plain and simple. So if he has 2 years left, he better take advantage.

Why? Its his decision not yours... If you were Grant Hill would you a) stay in Pheonix? (Beautiful in Arizona, great friendships there, comfortable in the system) b) go to New York (big city, big media, big money, big publicity) or c) come to boston (cold, windy, smelly, busy, play for a championship, but get less minutes.)

To say you wouldnt respect a player for not coming to your favorite team is just plain wrong and ignorant. He is a human and he can make the decision thats best for himself.

So you would lose respect for a player who wasn't chasing a ring.  That doesn't make sense.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I really don't think Hill wants to come here.  If you're seriously thinking about going to a winning team or a losing team?  Come on!  He doesn't want to come here.  Plus, this stuff about his wife and her singing career in NY is bunk, because why are they now considering Phoenix?

And Grant has made probably over $100 Million in his career so I doubt he needs money.

Gimme a break dig6! You think Hill is going to worry about your lack of respect. I thought Pro Basketball was a business and thats why we didnt resign Possey. Were we disrespectful to Possey? Come on.

No offense, because its not just you making it, but I can't stand this argument.  Who cares if he doesn't NEED the money?  $3 million (or $8 million) is nothing to sneeze at.  Yeah, it is small enough a difference that at this point in his career, he can consider taking that much less, however, I think it is incredibly disingenuous for anyone to question someone for taking the money, and going where there family wants to go.

To be completely honest, I think choosing Boston would be an incredibly selfish move by Hill.  It is not where his family wants to be, and it is not in the best interest of his family moneywise (even if you are already rich, that extra cash can go a long way once you are retired, or for your kids), just because he wants to chase a ring.  Of course I hope he chooses to be selfish here, but to question his integrity (I know you didn't, but thats what other posters are doing), because he went with what is best for his family, rather than what is best for him is unfair.

With that said, I really hope he is a ringchaser.

I agree.  Basketball wise this is a COMPLETE no brainer.  PHO is rebuilding and they have all but admitted it, and NY is just trying to sell tickets until the 2010 Free Agency, and that's obvious (not that I blame them).  Something else besides his wife's career is going on here.  Maybe Boston just makes that much sense, but he really don't want to play here.  Or maybe he really does just want to have a starting role.  I just can't picture this decision taking very long considering the money is similar everywhere (unless PHO blows me away), and the basketball aspect is laughable.

I actually think there is one way it makes sense basketball wise. Hill did mention how he hated missing so much basketball in his career and would like to play as much as possible.

NY and PHO give him minutes. Starters 35mpg. We can offer maybe 25 on a good day. I know for a lot of people sitting on the bench sucks.

TP for this.  Seriously, I'd say it's a fairly safe bet that none of us here can concievably come close to understanding/relating to the lifestyles of these players.  Sure, it's easy for us to sit here and say "oh come on you've already made $100+ million, what's an extra $2-3 million really going to do for you?"  Ha, quite a bit if you think about it.

With that being said, I don't think Hill is this type of guy.  I mean he already took a lesser deal to play in Phoenix the past 3 seasons for a chance at a ring, so I don't think that's the biggest factor in his decision.  Remember, he didn't exactly grow up in the projects.  His parents were pretty well off from what I understand, so again, I don't think this is a huge deal for him.

I truly think it's more of a family issue (which is why PHX is in the running).  He's 37, and this is probably his last contract, so maybe he just doesn't want to uproot his family.  Maybe the allure of NYC and playing a more prominent role on a team is more alluring than being a backup playing 15-20 min per game.

I just hope he signs here!

I get the point.  Why would anyone choose to go to a losing team over a chance to win it all.  Especially someone with Hill's career (injuries, length) .  Posey actually picked a team with talent although it didn't quite turn out well for him but, I kind of felt the same way about him choosing to leave for 1 extra year.  It really made no sense to me of course who knows maybe it's more than the money and there are other viable reasons someone would choose to not play in Boston. I won't begrudge Hill (mainly because I think he's almost done) if he chooses NY or Phx.
