I agree that players 10-15 are irrelevant in terms of contribution on the floor. However, they do affect team morale and chemistry.

Injuries happen. A good GM isn't going to have a scrub backing up the only PG or C on his roster.

Likewise, GMs need to also build a franchise, not just a team. If your rotation is full of 30-somethings, and you have no prospects to develop, you'll be irrelevant in a few years' time.

Sure, obviously a teams depth talent-wise and the number of prospects is important. But players with too much talent won't accept a limited role off the bench and too many prospects will create a stagnant atmosphere. True harmony or equilibrium  comes from a good balance of all types of players. My point is Rondo2287 is in very good shape despite trading a top 10 pick (Something I regret doing last year) and not having picks 10-15.

Agreed. I do think Rondo's done very well to consolidate picks into the first 2/3s of the draft.

I agree but in your quote about having a scrub as a backup.  This whole discussion was based on 10-15 players vs free agents.  I think once you get into the 12-13 round area all your talking about are scrubs.

But last year's draft proved that there are rotation-caliber players available there. And there will be some again this year, guaranteed. The question is who will find those players.

But my point is that as the draft is currently stated those players drafted last year were scrubs, and this year they will be scrubs again

Rasual Butler and Flip Murray were drafted in the 15th round. They weren't scrubs last year, aren't this year, and won't be next year.

Tony Allen was drafted in the 8th. I'd trade him for either Butler or Murray, straight up.

Rondo looks in good shape, 8 picks in the top 180 should yield a great team. Me I have a few players eyed and have ways to build around them but it depends on how the draft unfolds.

Utah is willing to listen to offers for its late first round pick(#26) for a high 2nd and 3rd round draft picks OR be willing to trade multiple mid round picks for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

So I can hold all my players until the very last second of free agency, thus other people can't pick them up.

If a real NBA team did something like that, they'd get a horrible reputation that would hurt the franchise. NBA teams cut players in training camp to give them an opportunity to catch on with another team, or waive players while they are still playoff eligible. We're talking about 14th and 15th rounders. Most likely young players. I think its unfair to not give them an opportunity to catch on with another team if you have no use for them. That's my 2 cents on that.

lol....I just got this weird flashback to the first time I played with action figures after I had just read "Indian In the Cupboard". If you don't get it, forget about it but that's hilarious.

Ha! Fair and true. But to play devil's advocate, most veteran starters, particularly those with on eye on their next contract, aren't going to be happy or much willing to take 20 min reserve roles...

That said, my compliments to you on the job you've done working the phones. And I'm also really enjoying KC's plan to deprive the rest of the league of bench depth. (After all, he's just playing the games according to the rules as they've been given. Right?)

I think we should have an initial winner, then an All-star break winner, then a full season winner, with different awards for each.

Great idea. I'm on board.

players drafted in the 15th round last year that are quality players will not be drafted in the 15th round again, because they did well.  That said, the 15th round will have a new influx of scrub players to replace them.  Sure some of them will prove themselves this year and people will get pats on the back when walker wiggle releases the best picks list next year.  But a player drafted in the 15th round will have no effect on the results this year

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
1st rounder (29) on the block.  Looking for 2 2nd rounders or comparable value.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.
