  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Guys picked in 13th round:
Jose Barea
Mardy Collins
Dan Gadzuric

Guys picked in the 14th:
Luc Mbah a Moute
Antoine Wright

Guys PIcked in the 15th:
Marcin Gortat
Rasual Butler
Flip Murray

Guys Signed in Free Agency:
Jason Thompson

Don't kid yourself that a guy signed outside of the first 12 rounds is a surefire non-producer.

Its all about saavy.

Dont Kid yourself and try to say that people thought that those guys would produce this year.  Nobody knew Marcin Gortat would be what he is.  Those guys will not go that low this year correct?  Which means the guys that do go that low this year will be question marks based on when we are voting on this whole thing.  Please Please send me a link from a press conference where somebody said, "Antoine Wright," is going to play significant minutes on this team.

That's why I agree we should re-evaluate the teams later in teh season. Then, guys who put their eggs in baskets like Rasheed Wallace, Allen Iverson or Elton Brand don't get credit for something that didn't pan out, and guys who selected people like Nene (whoever that was), Russell Westbrook, or Marcin Gortat get the credit they deserve.

Well luckily we dont re-evaluate.  Im playing this game by the rules, not what I think the rules should be.

Sure I did, but this is an offseason excercize.  The winner is decided before next season starts.  AKA late round picks are question marks.

I think we should have an initial winner, then an All-star break winner, then a full season winner, with different awards for each.

In the end though you're probably right...those 15th rounders don't exactly always matter.

I agree that players 10-15 are irrelevant in terms of contribution on the floor. However, they do affect team morale and chemistry.

I think there has to be some accounting for player performance during the season.

For instance, Rubio's case won't be settled until next season gets underway. If he plays, he's an impact pick. If not, he's a wasted pick.

I think it was the commish that said, "Draft Rubio at your own risk."  That is why

Injuries happen. A good GM isn't going to have a scrub backing up the only PG or C on his roster.

Likewise, GMs need to also build a franchise, not just a team. If your rotation is full of 30-somethings, and you have no prospects to develop, you'll be irrelevant in a few years' time.

Yep. And why we have the "team of the future" category as well.

For those who care, there's more than one "winner" in this exercise.

I agree but in your quote about having a scrub as a backup.  This whole discussion was based on 10-15 players vs free agents.  I think once you get into the 12-13 round area all your talking about are scrubs.

But last year's draft proved that there are rotation-caliber players available there. And there will be some again this year, guaranteed. The question is who will find those players.

But my point is that as the draft is currently stated those players drafted last year were scrubs, and this year they will be scrubs again
