I think Powe is gone. Rivers trusts Davis more than Powe and he probably sees more upside with Davis. From a statistical standpoint, both would do better playing for another, weaker team, to get out of the shadows of the Big 3. I do think Davis has better court sense and does a good job in defending the bigs with his strength/girth but Powe Pimpin is still my man!

I still go with Powe. Beyond the skill comparison of the two, financially, if both ask for the same, Powe's money would be protected by Bird rights and thus would simply count against the cap, while Davis, due to his holding out for a simple 2 year deal, would need the 3 million to come out of our MLE to keep him.

I thought at the time of Davis's signing, I read that a player who has been with a team for 2 years can be bumped as high as the MLE (using the bird exception), and yet it doesn't actually count as using the MLE.

uhh yeah, in typical "Fan from VT" fashion, I posted this information simultaneously in TWO different threads, then figured I'd better read the old "Salary Cap FAQ." I do believe I was wrong and you are right.

However, I still go Powe. I think that Rivers goes to Davis more because Davis is significantly better at defending bigger players. But Powe is just way better at rebounding and scoring. I know a lot of people hate numbers, but it's very hard to ignore how putrid Davis is offensively. Sometimes he's in rhythm to hit some elbow jumpers, but he still misses way more than he hits; somehow he's one of those teflon players where people remember his makes but completely shrug off his numberous misses (much like Kobe with game winners; he hits something like 25% of deep game winning 3's but we all remember his clutch bombs and forget the much more numerous clankers). Anyway, I would rather keep Powe as a backup PF, then replace Davis with a real center who can defend the center position as well as Davis but isn't as terrible on offense. Best case scenario, Moore is that guy this year and he can cut down Davis's minutes.

Powe > BBD and it isn't close.  I think the question is laughable actually.

I think Baby brings more energy to the lineup. Leon is slower but maybe a little tougher. Leon definitely has a better touch down low but Davis clears out in the lane as well as anyone. I think they have become buddies, it seems that way. Maybe they will both want to stay but I doubt it. I worry about Leon's knees and Glenn's weight as health issues so I dont know about long term.

Whoever is the most affordable and loyal (cheapest) is fine with me. Keep em both.

I like Powe better, but a lot will come down to what type of contracts they're looking for, I think.

Right, but if they both ask for the same thing, and the C's can only afford 1, who do you keep?
I'd say Powe. But I think the question depends much more on if we get a true center to backup Perk this offseason. If we don't I'd keep Baby.

The question may be answered as early as the playoffs.

Again, if someone forced you to choose today, who would you resign this summer?

You can change your mind for real this summer. I'm just looking for a gut read right now. Lots of good cases for both sides so far.  Thanks for your votes everyone. ;D

I say sign both if its possible. But if i had to choose one I'd say BBD. You know what forget it, ainge should resign both of these guys. One is an outside shooter while the other one is a low post scorer, and they work well together.Although we complain alot these two guys work their tails off every game. Its difficult to choose one. I'll be sad to see one go.

We would sign Davis with early bird rights.

And EJ, stop spreading lies around. Thanks.

Why don't you stop your personal attacks, or at least make a point about what you disagree with BC. Since you just chose to slander me and not actually make a point I will have to assume you disagree with BBD being fatter than he was at the draft. Take a look at this link and tell me I am wrong. (If someone can post it in the thread itself versus the link a TP to you)

A great question asked and a dilemma I haven't been able to come up with an exact answer to...
I think Davis has a better skill set, jumper if falling is nice, good passer, plays better team defense AND can defend some centers due to his unique body.  Some say he's fat but the man is just a big guy, look at his form, legs, chest compared to perk.
Leon I love, sort of guy I'd keep on my team as a bench player for his entire career.  He knows his job and simply outworks a huge % of nba players, subs or starters.  If he was 6'9"  ::)

I think no matter who would be the "one" to stay my opinion is either guy is trade bait.  Much like Pruitt who can look good as a backup to rondo but we don't really need a young pg and a young backup.  If a good trade comes up and leon is part of it, I'd say he's gone...likewise with davis.  Davis did cry after kg yelled at him, big negative in my book.
A good thing to throw into argument; right now can Powe start for an nba team as pf?  I feel he could start for some of the lesser teams needing a banger.  Could Davis start right now for anyone in league, I don't think so.
Sign both go from there, trade or otherwise.

He lost all weight just to improve his stock. I personally think the new fit/muscular BBD is better than the scrawny BBD. He can defender better having some cushion.

There you go Roy. Thanks.

NO ONE can look at that photo and say that BBD did not work his tail off prior to the draft to put himself into great shape to try and distance himself from the Tractor Traylor, Oliver Miller, etc comparisons. And then he has put the majority of it back on. By the end of the season last year (see shirtless parade photos) he had put a huge amount of it back on. I would argue that he seems to have dropped a little bit the last few months, but seeing that it is the latter part of his contract year should we be surprised?! You at least have to QUESTION whether he is committed to being the best player he can be. I say no. The photos kind of back ME up...

I think it partly depends on Mikki Moore.  If he pans out and sticks around, I think that it points more towards Davis sticking around, to the muscular Ying to Moore's lengthy/athletic Yang.  If not, I'd still go with Davis over Powe.  Powe's nice, but he lacks two things Baby has: a jump shot and bulk.  Powe will never be able to guard big guys like Shaq and Big Z the way Davis can.
