Well... If this is confirmed... well...today has been an exciting free agent day.

Does this mean we HAVE to give more minutes to Bill Walker?  Or are we teaching Gabe to play the 3?

With Stephon Marbury soon to become a free agent after receiving a buyout from the Knicks, the Celtics are now a front-runner to sign him once he clears waivers, according to an NBA source. Marbury has expressed interest in joining the Celtics. An NBA source said the Celtics are strongly interested signing the two-time All-Star and will likely offer a contract to him to fill their final vacant roster spot once he becomes a free agent. Boston filled its 14th roster spot by signing forward-center Mikki Moore today. Celtics president Danny Ainge said today that now with Moore signed, the team will now focus on signing a combo-guard or wing player.

Stephon Marbury could soon become the newest member of the Celtics.

According to sources, the sides were very close to an agreement as soon as Marbury reached agreement with the Knicks on a buyout.

god. talk about mixed emotions....

on the one hand, i can not stand marbury as a human being and worry about him screwing up the celtics as a team playing unit.

but...

it is pretty clear that both cleveland and LA are at least very close to being as good as the celtics...or, dare i say it, even better.

marbury off the bench will make a big big difference for the celtics. marbury matched against the 2nd stringers of the nba will be good for the celtics....

if only he werent such a jerk.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

You will not see more of Bill Walker. You will see more of Mikki, less of Baby and Powe. You will hopefully see Pierce playing less minutes with Scal moving to the 3. Marbury will cut into Gabe's minutes as well as allowing House to play the two to reduce Ray's minutes.

Mikki = less minutes for BBD, Powe, and Pierce (hopefully at least until the playoffs)
Stephon = less minutes for Pruitt, and Ray.

With Stephon we will have a scoring point gaurd that will make it so Doc doesn't have to leave either PP or Ray in with the 2nd unit to score the ball. Which lessens their minutes.

Here's my potential second unit

Starbury
House
Scal
BBD
Moore
Not the flashiest of names but they will play good defense, and House will light it up playing at the 2. If Scal is out for a while I guess Gabe sees more minutes or PP or Ray play more.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

You said it well....
On the upside, there is a clear team heirarchy in place here, with KG, RA and PP the big dogs -- my guess is that if Marbury starts acting up, there will be heck to pay...

I am guessing the biggest possible concern is Marbury vs. Rondo.  But Rondo has been playing so well lately, and it really looks like KG has got his back, so I have no doubt that the Celtics management will just cut Marbury if he becomes a headache.

If it makes you feel better he's probably more insane than he is a jerk. He probably doesn't mean to be a jerk it's just his brain doesn't work the same way most people's do.

  • Let's Go Celtics
I was among the skeptics at first, but I think we need his scoring off the bench.  He is an upgrade from Pruitt and House.  He can play with Rondo, House, Pruitt, or Allen in the backcourt.  He is a risk, but a low one.  As soon as any crap goes on he'll be out the door.  I'm pumped about this.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

I'm trying to think positive about this one.  James Posey, before he came here, was known as a bit of a drunkard and a jerk, and he became "Model Locker Room Guy".  Starbury is about 80 times crazier than Pose, so I'm hoping this locker room will get him to be...oh... "At Least Not a Cancer".

Disclaimer:  I am NOT trying to compare Starbury and Pose, I'm just trying to make an optimistic forecast.

I am alternately thrilled and terrified.
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

Funny that we have to add these disclaimers, isn't it?

As I said on the front page:  Starbury will have a big impact.  Whether that's for the better or for the worse will be determined.
