Frankly, I think with the trades to Sac, DA went after Miki Moore.  (somehow they are related).  And he must believe the Moore is the best fit for our team defense and offense needs.

Most fans in this board also like the POB signing because:

- he was a 7ft (who would play better with a change of scenario, like some are expecting Moore to do)

- he was cheap, so a low risk/high reward signing.

That's okay and it's the same way that most people are seeing this signing - better to have him than nothing (myself included).

The problem is that it would be nice to add some quality players to the bench at some point. Moore is not that. He adds depth, but he doesn't replace Posey or PJ Brown in terms of quality.

I find it quite interesting that you and many other posters find no value in the signing, yet our 3 chief rivals - LAL/SA/CLE all made offers immediately to the same player...this wasn't a baseball bidding war, the price was low...the fact that they all went after him tells me that he has value that this board isn't seeing...

Pretty amazing that you say that I "find no value in the signing" when I've said multiple times that I think this signing makes us a better team.
Yeah I think Bill and Cordobes are actually on the same page here.

but all those teams have solid benches already...the Cs do not....

those teams would be signing Mikki to be a 10th-11th man (which would be a fine signing)
Yes, and that's why Moore signed with us. He knows he has a better chance of getting time. But it's still a good signing, because he's better than an open roster spot (or POB). If you would just say that then it would be very clear very quickly that we're all in fact on the same page. We're arguing about nothing.

Just skimmed through some of the posts and I find it hard to believe some guys don't like the move and would rather have a 100 year old Motumbo.
Moore is just going to be a ninth or tenth man(at least I hope so), so let's not get all worked up here!
At least he can play a little and isn't over the hill.

but we're not just trying to be a better team...we're trying to be the best team.

does Mikki make us better? sure. the question is does it make us ENOUGH better....

I'm fine with having Moore as the back up center. Some people are down on Moore because he has less than desirable statistics. However, I strongly believe he will raise his level of play with the Celtics. I think it's more important we add another scoring guard. Marbury would be the ideal fit. He can play both the point and the off guard, despite being undersized.

it's only a good signing IMO if someone better doesn't get bought out that we miss on because we jumped at Moore.

Yeah, agreed.  The only way this makes sense is if Danny has rock solid info that Smith isn't being bought out.  In that case, sure, sign Moore.  Otherwise, this makes no sense.  Smith is an impact role player; Moore is an upgrade over POB.

Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald reports that by this time tomorrow Moore will be a Celtics:

http://bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/celtics/?p=295&srvc=home&position=recent

Ummm, am I the only one who read the article and thought this thread title jumped the gun?

The article reads as NBA sources say that Moore will accept the C's offer, that Ainge claims doesn't exist.

Perhaps there is truth to it, but it certainly does not sound final to me.  Am I missing somehting?

Chris, when i first got to this thread as i was reading through it, i kept hoping that would be the case...

i guess we will have to wait till ST or the pre-game to see if the report stands up.

Yes, sign me up for this line of thinking.

I don't get it. How is the Moore signing connected in any way to other potential buyout signings? If Joe Smith wanted to come here, the Celtics would sign him, whether we had Moore or not.

I just changed the title slightly to reflect what the article actually says.

yeah, totally with you here....

i really wish Marbury seemed like a better guy. even though he doesn't play the position that we have the most need at, he also has the skill to be an impact player off the bench.

i'm just not excited to be wanting him on the team.....but now he seems like the best bet to really pump up the bench.

but we only have 2 roster spots....if Smith gets bought out and we sign him, that's great, but then we can't fill other clear needs...

Good point, you don't win with good players, you win with "difference makers". But I must have my green glasses on, because I think the C's can win it all as currently constituted. Won't be easy, but it hardly ever is.

I'm not giving up hope by any means. but this CLE team is turning into a runaway train. they are good. they are deep. and they play tough, tough defense....

the disappointment isn't that Mikki doesn't make us better. the disappointment is that we all have been looking at the bench and the loss of Posey and PJ and hoping that we would ultimately get someone with that kind of impact....
