The Celtics should have traded whoever they had to for Joe Smith and James Posey. According to this blog, if we had Smith and Posey in the line up we could have went undefeated this year.

well according this blog sounds me a little to much general
why not
according to Edgar  ;D and a couple more

Just skimmed through some of the posts and I find it hard to believe some guys don't like the move and would rather have a 100 year old Motumbo.
Moore is just going to be a ninth or tenth man(at least I hope so), so let's not get all worked up here!
At least he can play a little and isn't over the hill.

but we're not just trying to be a better team...we're trying to be the best team.

does Mikki make us better? sure. the question is does it make us ENOUGH better....

Yeah, very well said.

Fact is neither of us knows how either guy will play once they lace em up. Moore is used to playing on sucky teams and the one decent team he was on he excelled. He's energy and hustle and and I'm 1000% certain that being on a legit championship caliber team he will play with the passion that these guys are used to playing with and that's what we need right now. Also, he is a pure 5. I wouldn't mind JS but I'll take MM right now. Leon and Baby are not Centers. Period. At the 4 they are interchangeable, but them playing out of position is not going to be a good thing for us in the playoffs.

Yes, and that's why Moore signed with us. He knows he has a better chance of getting time. But it's still a good signing, because he's better than an open roster spot (or POB). If you would just say that then it would be very clear very quickly that we're all in fact on the same page. We're arguing about nothing.

it's only a good signing IMO if someone better doesn't get bought out that we miss on because we jumped at Moore.
I don't get it. How is the Moore signing connected in any way to other potential buyout signings? If Joe Smith wanted to come here, the Celtics would sign him, whether we had Moore or not.

but we only have 2 roster spots....if Smith gets bought out and we sign him, that's great, but then we can't fill other clear needs...
Several Possibilities:

- Danny doesn't think we really need a veteran point guard, and hopes to sign Smith with the other open roster spot.

- Danny will cut Giddens if Smith says he wants to come to Boston once he's bought out.

- Danny knows that Joe Smith isn't coming to Boston, either because he's not going to get bought out, or because if he is bought out he'll be headed to Cleveland.

- Danny signed Moore because he doesn't think that Joe Smith has much of a chance of winding up in Boston. If Smith gets bought out and wants to come to Boston, Danny can't sign him, so he screwed up royally.

The fourth possibility seems to be what you think. You very well could be right, but I'm not buying it. I view the Moore signing as an isolated event because I trust that Danny has done and will do everything in his power to sign Smith.

How much will it suck if Joe Smith is bought out and he signs with Cleveland?  :P

I think that's a foregone conclusion.

Knowing that he played for Clev last year, they can give him more $$ and as good of a title chance, and that he won't be asked to play an unfimiliar role (backup center/ defender); it seems fairly obvious to me when the guy is saying stuff like, 'My agent is going to take care of the business' (ie: get paid) ---  That he is about to sign for with the Cavs.

I don't think we ever had a shot at Joe Smith.

while i would prefer joe smith, i like this signing.  it gives us a high energy big man off the bench.  he is servicable and will help bring some consistency to our bench.

hopefully he plays sooner than later and can step in and contribute in kg's absence, thus helping us with home court advantage for the playoffs.

I hope so. But why should we expect that? The man has been a sieve all his career and suddenly he becomes a good defender?

Moore's problem was never lack of effort or hustle. Just lack of talent.

Yeah but on the same token when did Eddie House, Ray Allen, or Paul Pierce ever make the All Defensive Team. All three of these guys throughout their careers have been known as offensive players but look what happened this year and last. Sometimes all it takes is effort, hustle, and the right system. Oh and having KG does help too.

House is still a defensive liability. Ray Allen was always a decent defender. Paul Pierce was always an excellent defensive. But they were forced for most of their careers to carry the offensive load for their teams therefore not being able to dedicate themselves defensively. But Pierce in those JOB teams, or Allen in that Bucks team that made the ECF were good defensively and generally assigned to stop the opponent best wing.

Uninformed people think they were defensive sieves before last season. Not true.

Moore, on the other hand, never had to worry about saving his energy when on the floor, so it's not really comparable.

Good defensive teams can hide a couple of bad defenders. They're still there though.

Just tired of hearing about Joe Smith.  Would I have preferred him over Moore.  Sure, I would have.  But he is not available as of now.  And even if he were, Cle has the probably the best shot at getting him because they can offer more than the minimum.  So, it's not like he was a slam dunk to get to us.

So we have to take what we can at this point.  A 7 footer with a jump shot.  Frnakly, I think that is extremely important.  Much more so than a tough guy to defend.

The Globe is reporting that this isn't done yet:

Quote
Center Mikki Moore's agent said early this evening that his client has yet to make a decision on which team he will play for after he clears waivers tomorrow morning.

Agent Mark Bartelstein said the Celtics were amongst as many as four teams that Moore was mulling over joining. Bartlestein also mentioned Denver, New Orleans, Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix as potential suitors. He also added that Boston was a strong contender and said his client will not have a firm decision until tomorrow after he clears waivers.

"It's definitely something he's interested in," said Bartelstein of the Celtics. "But stuff happens (referring to Denver center Nene's knee injury). We'll wait until the morning to see where we are at."

While the Celtics are a strong contender for Moore's services, it's possible other teams might be able to outbid Boston financially.

So I thought he cleared waivers today?

Maybe this story will get Joe Smith to get off the pot.
