There has been plenty of threads and posts putting the guy down so i wanted to make a thread for people who like him. I am a big TA fan and like him way more than House the tempo killer or black hole Powe, though i actually root for them and want them to do good. For all the complaing he still is the leading scorer off the bench on 47% shooting which is pretty good. He gets 1.24 spg which is by far the best of the bench players and yes he does average the most turnovers but he plays 3 more minutes a game than anybody else from the bench. On defense he struggled before he got hurt but still has played good defense all year, he has held his opponents to about a 12.5 PER which is very good. He always plays hard and is very well liked by his teammates, sure he makes dumb plays as does everyone on the team does. But a good amount of Celts fans only want to see the bad that he does and like to make it seem like he has been awful this year when he has been average at worst and played pretty good a majorty if the time.

I really hope that people dont come into the thread and bash him as this is supposed to be a positive thread about him. Im just curious as to how many here actually like TA and what he brings to the team. So far the members include Mean Gerald Green and me, hopefully there are a few more lol.

I like Tony. I was quite high in resigning him, mainly because I consider him cheap, didn't really affect our financial resources to acquire players this season, thought he would be better than last season (which he is, when many around here thought he was "done") and more importantly it's another player we can use to make a trade. He still needs to improve, which I think he can, mainly on how he's finishing once he gets to the rim. I don't know if it's the lack his prior athletism, but he simply isn't finishing like he should. He's looking to get the contact instead of scoring the ball. Doing something as "simple" as that will do wonders for him and us.

But at the moment, I see more value in him in possible trade situations if needed be.

His signing wasn't a mistake no matter how you look at it. He's cheap, can help the SF position when needed, can defend, and as said before a body that can be used in a trade (young + cheap + short contract for teams looking towards 2010).

Well said.  I've been meaning to write one of these myself.  At the beginning of the year how many "we've been waiting for this Tony" or "he's playing great" etc. posts did we see?  A ton.  These same people are now saying Tony sucks, he's "dumb as a brick" as I saw today.

Same exact people want to kill him now hes going to through a tough stretch.  He's hurt, and has still been tweaking that knee a bit.

When he's been healthy he's been great.  Just look at the beginning of the year.  He's playing on the 2nd unit without a point guard or anyone with any sort of slashing ability.  Nobody creates anything except him.  The 2nd unit is entirely stagnant and he tries to break it up.  He's very aggressive which is exactly what the team needs.  This is also a source of turnovers.  No hes not a great shooter or dribbler, but he attacks and fills that role perfectly for the bench.  He's hurt right now but when hes feeling well, he has contributed.  We've seen it.

As soon as he plays 3 games in a row decently, all the Tony hater bandwagoners will pretend that they were behind Tony the whole way.  Its embarrassing actually.  Its kind of like how everyone all of a sudden loves Scal again.  Fickle fans with a 2 week memory.

TP Matt.

I'll jump on the "TA Support Bus", not necessarily the bandwagon.

I would definately trade him if we could get something of use back, i feel the same about any of the bench players. I'm not obvlivious enough to say he has been great or anything, he needs to finish stronger at the hoop instead of looking for contact which is the same problem Powe has. Overall he does need to improve but i dont see this awful player that some claim him to be, he has been a fine role player and has played within himself most of the time.

I think people just thought he would replace Posey literally when in reality he was just a piece of replacing him. Posey was extremely versatile and could do alot of things while TA is a slasher and a defender but the hate on him has gotten out of hand. People actually saying he will be out of the league soon or shouldnt be in it now, that's a joke. The contract was not a mistake, it was too short and cheap like you said. They should of went and got some other help ontop of him and House, not instead of them.

I have always liked Tony, unfortunately is one of the best trade assets we have, and might be gone if there is a deal.

8 posts in and already somebody bashing him, nice. He obviously cant help us now as he is hurt, but when he was playing he was obvioulsy helping them win games. If he is an embarassment i dont want to know what the rest of the bench is, not liking a guy is fine but to call him stupid, a moron, dumb as bricks and such is a bit much IMO.

I hope he starts playing well enough that most on here will jump on his bandwagon.

I just am not holding my breath waiting for him.

Thats just my opinion...i dont see how he helps our team, I could care less about his stats, and being injured and injury prone because hes out of control doesnt help, I think hes the dumbest most inconsistent basketball player in the league, Id rather Scal/Gabe/Bill Walker/eddie house/Anybody get his minutes even when healthy...How can you blame someone for bashing him? just look at the guy on the floor, hes my least liked celtic of all time, and I have no understanding why you or anyone else likes him

How do you expect people to respond to your question of "Do you like TA" if you don't want anyone to say they don't?! You can't take a guy like TA who you obviously know a huge amount of people dislike, and expect them not to say they don't like him when you ask the question. Sorry we couldn't stroke your ego agreeing with you, but the guy has more minuses than pluses. If you want to start a thread where no one will disagree then start something like "KG has great energy out there. Don't you all agree?!"

I know there are many who dont like him, thats why the point of this thread was about people who DO like him. THere are plenty of threads to hate on TA in, this was just about people who like him and wanted to say good thing about him. It may be a suprise to you, but there are actually a good amount of people who like TA and have good things to say about him. I wasnt telling people who dont like him to like him or say good things about him, it's for people who are fans of him and wanted to get a chance to compliment him without every other post bashing him, but i guess it was too much to ask.
