Bill Walker is already better than Tony Allen. Just not doing something stupid every couple of minutes makes him better than TA. Please no more Tony Allen.

Just Curious what people think about this kid. From what I have seen he is a competitor, Athletic, Strong, Can get to the basket, and has a decent jump shot. At this point I think hes a better fit than Giddens. Hes a much better shooter and has better size to cover both SG and SF. Walker has much more upside than Tony Allen ever had, and in a year or so I think he will be an overall better player. If and when the C's make roster moves this season I really hope that Bill Walker will is not included.
I think that few weeks when TA was leading the team in scoring at 20+ his upside was pretty high. Not sure Walkers upside is 20+ a game.

That being said TA is not playing good basketball right now. He's making bad decisions and not playing within himself. What he needs to do is pressure people, and go to the hole every time he can. When he tries to create he has problems. I think he might not ever return to complete form after all the knee surgeries Walker and Giddens are the future at backup wing.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I don't see why Walker couldn't have a similar stretch on a bad team like TA did. It's not as if TA average 20+ for a season. It was just a few weeks on a depleted, losing team.

The best case scenario for Walker is better than the best case for TA and the worst case scenario is worse, since we know less about Walker since he is so early in his career.

tony is too inconsistent, he can never be trusted so therefore he has no place on a championship team.  When his ADHD isn't rocking his head around he can put up 20 but the dude is like one of those inflatable dancing balloon advertisements.  If Bill plays good to average defense he should be playing instead of TA.

as of now i think it is safe to count out JR, it's like he's intimidated by the NBA superstars where Billy wants to go right at them.

TA- 4 year veteran, excellent defender, good at driving to the hole, poor judgement, poor shooter

Walker- lack of experience, shows good potential on D, good at driving to the hole, decent shooter out of the draft, has improved range in the d-league.

edit: walker also is a very good rebounder, thats kindof part of playing the forward position.

There's absolutely no way you can count out JR Giddens right now. NONE. He was a little tentative in camp but since he went down to the D he's been very aggressive and going right at his man. As is, this kid's defense is gonna give him a chance.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

Agreed. Walker has a good bit of upside. But Tony had occasional All-Star potential once. As for now, though, I'd say Walker wins. Tony is just damaged goods, physically and mentally. The knee thing, the Point Guard thing...

What you have now is a player severely lacking in fundamentals and Basketball IQ who probably is nearing that point of no return. More wasted athleticism. Not quite Gerald Green levels, but that's just sort of the direction he's going in, y'know?

Love what I saw out of Walker yesterday. He played very much within the Celtics' offense, made smart passes, and showed a great deal of skill on a few plays (the Alley Oop, and the spin move + drive baseline). Give this guy a few years to develop, and he could be something special.

Or he could be Gerald. Who knows?

At the least he has the size we've needed.  Walker is a true sf.  IMO he can help, he played within the teams game last night, rebounded tough, plays good d and had a few highlight reels.  He's already far better than Gerald.  I think he can help us,like his gritty/swagger.  We have a mass sg corp though.  Eddie, Tony, Ray & Pruitt not even counting giddens.  I'd be looking at moving TA for a first round pick or packaging him somehow.

no one is going to trade us a first round pick for TA.

We could have a really young, really explosive starting lineup in 2010-2011:

Rondo
Giddens
Walker
Garnett
Perkins

Pierce
Pruitt
Third Big?

...

Walker is an infinitely smarter basketball player than Tony Allen. There are other factors that would concern me about him, the main thing being his knees.

And no, not a soul is going to trade a 1 for Tony Allen. Except, perhaps, a poster or two here.

i'd say that walker also has more body control over TA, Tony drives through piles and finds a way to get it up there despite contant, Billy can throw an upfake, a spin move and drive to the hole HARD and have it be defenseless. like that play last night, once he beat his man he hung in the air and it was an easy shot, TA would drive by his man, still have him hanging on his arm, then have the big in his face, then throw up a miracle shot that sometimes goes in.

long story short, billy plays to score. TA plays more for contact and if it goes in its a bonus.

The Timberwolves have a similar "young and explosive" lineup this season, and we know how well they're doing. More will be needed.

Except young teams don't win.

I'd like to see him get a few meaningful minutes, not just garbage time, to see if he can effectively backup Paul.  That would be one position we won't have to fill and then Ainge can concentrate on getting a big and a point guard.
