Well, I don't agree with your judgment on Pierce, but that's true, not only regarding Pierce but with most of the C's players, especially those who were drafted by the club. Pierce is the best player in the world, Perkins is more useful than Bynum, O'Bryant is as good as Bynum, Rondo and Allen have decent jump-shots, etc, are the kind of extraordinary, but rather common statements that can be read here. Guys who can make alley-oops also get more love than they deserve. Fans, and not only Celtics fans, generally over-appreciate their own players (and, again, even more those who are in the team since joining the league).
[/quote]

Yeah those 'fans' are so unrealistic about their players...

Paul said that himself that he was better than Kobe.  Should we all disagree with him so you and the rest of people that feel otherwise are happy?  Especially if we agree with him.  Must be both Paul and the 'fans' overestimating his talents.

Perkins is as 'useful' (not sure what that means) but, if you mean he's more valuable to the C's then Bynum then yes that would be absolutely correct statement.

POB is as good as Bynum... ugh I'm 100000% sure that's never been uttered or are you maybe slightly exaggerating?

Rondo has a decent (not sure what decent means) jump shot... see above

Allen does have an adequate mid range jumper that is also absolutely correct statement.

As someone said before, this is a very likeable team and all the guys have their strengths and weaknesses.  But since it was asked...

Can do no wrong:
Ray Allen - He has been my favorite player since his time at UConn.  I too feel that he is underrated by most fans (and probably overrated by me) and underused and incorrectly used.  Fortunately, other teams do not underestimate him and his floor spacing makes it easier for the whole team.

The other starters - Historically I was never a huge Pierce fan, but he has grown on me as he has matured.  I've always liked KG.  And it is really fun to see Perkins getting consistently better.  (I think because we watch so many games we don't notice this progress, but look at a game from a few years ago compared to this season).  And Rondo is just fun to watch.

Biased against:
Sam Cassell - I liked him on the Bucks and TWolves, but hate him on the Celtics.  Like Bill Simmons said last year, Sam Cassell is the mole.

Tony Allen - I want to like him, I really do.

I predict that in these two years, O'bryant will contribute to the celtics at least as much as Bynum will contribute to the Lakers. He will be a defense force after our assistant coaches get working on him.

Another one:

If O'Bryant had the playing time that Bynum had, I think he could easily put up similar averages.

Of course, believing that O'Bryant will contribute AT LEAST as much as Bynum will, or that Pierce is better than LeBron, or that Posey will be out of the Hornets' rotation in December, or that Ainge wouldn't trade Perkins for Bynum and all that stuff is just a matter of opinion, so it's no big deal.

Bump.  We thought this thread would be interesting to re-visit after a year.

Looking back, I was overly harsh with BBD (he's a better player than I gave him credit for, although he still gets under my skin with some of his stupid antics), but feel good about my other judgments.  It's interesting to see how many people were down on Perk while he was going through his "I can't dunk without bringing the ball down to my knees" stage.

Anybody changed their mind?  Anybody want to weigh in who wasn't around last year?

I guess I'm biased against Giddens

and the ones who can do no wrong is Perk, and to a lesser extent Pierce

I'd like to think I'm pretty fair.  I'm hard on BBD, but I don't think it's to the point of being biased against him - I just want him to mature.  Enough of the dumb comments about playing in the NFL, no more fights with friends.  Just go help your team win games.

I don't think there are any players that can do no wrong on the Celtics.  Pierce just doesn't seem to do much wrong these days, but I have no problem admitting it when he does.

This is what I posted last year.

Binkies:

Paul Pierce:  Grown up with the guy.  Remember being psyched the day we drafted him and the pride I felt when he finally got recognition during the '02 ECF run.  He's been the one constant for me as a Celtics fan going back to high school through college to today.

Eddie House:  Love this guy.  Everytime he shoots from beyond the arc, I get a thrill waiting for it to go down.  I just love this guy.

Rajon Rondo:  Just a special kind of athlete.  One of the fastest players on the court that I've ever seen.  I love his intensity.  He's like a little brother.

Leon Powe:  Grown man.  I love the controlled physicality of his game.

Buggers

Tony Allen:  Do I even need to explain this one?

Perk:  The fouls bother me and STOP PUTTING THE BALL ON THE COURT when you're two feet from the hoop!!!  (However, beyond that, I still love him)

I'd like to remove Eddie from my binky list and remove Perkins from my bugger list.  Obviously, Powe is gone so he's removed too.  Rondo's not enough of a binky anymore.

2009 version

Binkies

Pierce:  See 2008

Perkins:  Total flipflop for me.  I love his intensity and his is truly our most physical player.  He's really come into his own.

Buggers

Tony Allen- See 2008

Rasheed Wallace-  Frustrates me to no end when he sits around the perimeter.  Its wishful thinking but I would really like to see him in the paint more and playing his back to the basket.

Binky

KG

Perkins

I like interior defense setting the tone.

Rondo

I like defense that makes it hard for the other offense to get in their sets.

Pierce

Got to have an offensive leader.

Buggers

Ray

When he deferrers to the bench players instead of being the go to guy he is.  (though I am not looking to see him replaced.  Just be more aggressive at times)

TA

Over hyped, inconsistent SG that is a terrible fit for the starters.  Want to see him replaced with a better fit

Davis

Just not getting in shape to be able to compete for the spot Powe has on this team.  To short to be the C.  (just a bad fit for the 2nd big man off the bench)
TA

Well, at least Davis showed more in the "getting in shape" that I thought.

TA can stay where he is.

As usual, Bass got it right.

On the other hand, I'm waiting for Tony Turnover's annual season-ending injury.  Should be any day now.

I didn't post in this thread last year, but I would have said the same thing I am saying now.  Perk can do no wrong.  He is the perfect role player and stays within his role.

I'd have to agree also that Scal is a great team player.  Whether he gets 2 minutes, 20 minutes, or no minutes he is the same.  No complaints about minutes or whatever.  He does what is asked of him and does it the best he can with his abilities.

I guess i am a little biased against Tony simply because he has had chance after chance after chance and we're still wondering if Tony can contribute.

Last year the only one I couldn't stand was Mikki Moore.  This year it's Rasheed.  He's exactly what he has been for a couple years- an overweight 3 point chucker with a questionable motor who doesn't rebound.  The fact that before the season started most posters thought we were getting an allstar quality player makes me like him even less.  What a joke.

Didn't post last year (didn't see the topic) but I don't have any real binkies or whipping boys.  I cheer or yell based on the plays made at the time so everyone gets a share of praise and a smack upside the head.

Having said that, I do seem to cheer a little more for all the "homegrown" players.  Scal used to get a little easier jeer (mostly because I was so ticked Danny could offer a player of that low calibur a contract for that much and especially for that long) but not so much any more.

I like this topic.  I guess I haven't really thought about this too much this season, but every year I always have a couple players who I am beyond  biased for.

Plyaers who can do no wrong in my eyes:

Rasheed
Pierce
TA

If any of those guys makes a turnover or a mistake or a dumb foul, I always find some sort of reason to assign the blame to someone else.   ;D
