  • The good ole days.
Here are some career milestones that we might see from the Celtics this year, and some estimations for when they could happen.  If you guys think you might want to check it every now and then (I plan to update it regularly) maybe a mod could make it a sticky, although I know there are several already.

Paul Pierce

Points - 18,146
Milestone: 17,000 - Milestone Reached
Milestone: 18,000 - Milestone Reached
*Milestone: 17,336 - Milestone Reached - Pierce passes McHale for Celtics 4th scorer all time
*Milestone: 18,246 (to pass Parish for 3rd all time in Celtics scoring) - 100 away, 5 games

Rebounds - 4,992
Milestone: 5,000 - 8 away, 1-2 games

Assists - 3,113
Milestone: 3,000 - Milestone Reached

Notes - Only 23 players in history have accomplished at least 18,000-5,000-3,000.

Kevin Garnett

Points - 21,241
Milestone: 21,000 - Milestone Reached

Rebounds - 11,664
Milestone: 12,000 - 419 away, 46 games (early next season)

Assists - 4,530
Milestone: 4,500 - Milestone Reached
Milestone: 5,000 - 470 away, ~160 games... he has slowed here the most, mid 2010-2011 season, knock on wood

Blocks - 1,730
Milestone: 1,700 - Milestone Reached
Milestone: 2,000 - 270 away, ~185 games, late 2010-2011 season, knock on wood

Steals - 1,443
Milestone: 1,500 - 57 away, early next season

Notes - Technically, 0 players in NBA history have the minimums in these 5 (or for what KG has now for that matter), although Kareem may have reached the 1,500 steals if they were counted his first 4 years.  For just the PTS-REB-AST numbers, 3 others in history - Kareem, Malone, Wilt.

Ray Allen

Points - 19,330
Milestone: 19,000 - Milestone Reached

Rebounds - 4,106
Milestone: 4,000 - Milestone Reached

Assists - 3,496
Milestone: 3,500 - 4 away, 1 games

3PT FG Made - 2,250
Milestone: 2,250 - Milestone Reached
Milestone: 2,561 (to pass Reggie Miller for most 3 PT made in NBA History) - 311 away, 150 games away (early 2010-2011 season)
Notes - Only Reggie Miller has as many 3PT FGs and PTS-REB-AST.  Take out the 3 pointers and only 20 others have done it.

Rajon Rondo

Points - 2,014
Milestone: 2,000 - Milestone Reached

Assists: 1,200
Milestone: 1,000 - Milestone Reached

Rebounds:
935
Milestone: 1,000 - 65 away, 12 games

Steals: 374
Milestone: 400, 26 away, 13 games

Notes - Well... 2,000-1,000-1,000 would not be the most exclusive club, but I think Rondo could be in elite company with his all around PTS-REB-AST-STL numbers in about 10 years.

Kendrick Perkins

Points - 1,812
Milestone: 2,000 - 188 away, 25 games

Rebounds - 1,872
Milestone: 2,000 - 128 away, 14 games

Pretty amazing to think the Celtic's have 3 players, still producing, that could soon each be among the top 25 or so players in terms of career statistical production.  (Oh, and they've got a ring, to boot  ;D).  Also, KG has a legitimate chance of becoming the new gold standard for all around production, although I don't think he surpasses Kareem or Malone in that status unless he plays a good 5-7 more years.

Oh, and one more...

Boston Celtics

NBA Championships - 17
Milestone: 18 - 1 away, estimated 1 season away  ;)

I wonder how these active Team Career Totals stack up against other great veteran teams.

I have to imagine the Pistons are up there between Wallace, Billups, Rip, and others.  Duncan boosts the Spurs quite a bit.  I don't think any other team has 3 vets with those kind of career stats though.  The Suns might actually be more impressive, but largely because of Shaq and Grant Hill, who are far from their primes.

West, Baylor & Wilt must have had some goofy career #'s at the point they played together.

Ah ha... I was thinking active teams.  I'm sure there are several all time that boast some redonkulous career totals, including those you mentioned.

Great thread.  I'd like to see these guys pass more and more milestones so in 20 years I can go to the basketball hall of fame and read a section of the the "Celtics Dynasty of the 2000s".

Complete with the "Leon Powe: Torch Carrier of Celtics Pride" display.

I'm getting a little giddy about Powe's development.

Ray Allen

Milestone: 20,000 - 1,773 away, hate to suggest it, but an injury that gives him more scoring load could give him a shot at 20k this season.

Two things that have been swirling in my head the last few days.  I'm not sure what's making me feel this way, but:

1) I think Ray's going to lead the C's in scoring this year
2) (unrelated to the topic but since I mentioned the first, I should mention the 2nd) Leon Powe is going to lead the bench in scoring.

Enjoy tracking the stats BT...We'll enjoy following
