Someone made mention earlier that tonight would be KG's 1000th career game.
That's a biggy in its own right.

I think it was kw10.
So hats off to him for the heads-up.
And well done, KG.
Only 612 more games to go  ;D

I don't know how I missed this thread when it first came out but what an excellent original post, Big Ticket. I mean truly spectacular. I saw where Pierce was placed on the all-time Celtics scoring list last night and thought that it was going to be amazing that by year's end he would be third on the list behind Hondo and Bird.

For those wondering this is where Paul Pierce should rank in all-time team stats in various categories by year's end:

Games: 10th - currently 10th with 733.
                         - Next up: Sam Jones 871

Minutes: 5th-7th - currently 8th with 27528.
                              - Next up: Bob Cousy 30,131
                                                Kevin McHale 30,118
                                                Dave Cowens 28,551
Points: 3rd - currently currently 5th with 16972.
                      - Next up: Robert Parish 18,245
                                       Kevin McHale 17,335

Field Goals Attempted: 5th - currently 8th 12598.
                                                 - Next up: Robert Parish 13,558
                                                                   Bill Russell 12,930
                                                                   JoJo White 12,782

Field Goals Made: 7th - currently 10th with 5566.
                                         - Next up: Bill Russell 5,687
                                                           JoJo White 5,648
                                                           Dave Cowens 5,608

Free Throws Attempted: 2nd - currently 2nd with 5785.
                                                     -Next up: John Havilcek 6589

Free Throws Made: 2nd - currently 3rd with 4599.
                                            -Next Up: Bob Cousy 4,621

Assists: 7th - currently 8th with 2893.
                       - Next up: K.C. Jones 2,904

Rebounds: 9th - currently outside Top 10 with 4653.
                            - Next up: Antoine Walker 4,782
                                              Bob Cousy 4,781

What about threepointers made?
He must be leading that category?

  • The good ole days.

Congratulations Paul Pierce on your 17,000 (and 1) total career points.  He is the 71st player in NBA history (76th in NBA/ABA history) to reach this mark.

Hey, can we add Pierce passing McHale and Parish for all-time Celtics scoring to the sticky?  Seems noteworthy.

Sure.

Just saw that you added it now - thanks and TP.

Congratulations Kevin Garnett on your 1,400th career steal.  He is the 40th player in NBA history (42nd in NBA/ABA history) to reach this mark (although not counted in stats until 1973-1974).

Pierce will probably surpass McHale
for 4th spot on the all-time Celtics
scoring list on Sunday.
He needs just 7 points to do so and
will most likely accomplish the feat
against Indiana on Larry Bird's
52nd birthday. Quite fitting, I think.
We'll see what happens.

Yep, other milestones upcoming include KG - 1,700 blocks (although I guess 2,000 would be more of a milestone) and Ray Allen - 4,000 rebounds.  They should both be achieved within 3-5 games.

Congrats to the captain.  That is no ordinary list he's moving up on.  He's jumping over legends.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

KG passed George Gervin to move into 29th place on the All Time scoring list with 20,723.  He should pass David Robinson in the next couple of weeks to move up to 28th at 20,790, and legitimately could move up as high as Hal Greer at 25th this season (21,586)...
Yup

I don't know if this qualifies, but the Celtics are the first team in NBA history to start a season with a 20-2 record or better, in consecutive seasons.
Yup

KG also just passed David Robinson, Clifford Robinson, and Randy Smith to move into 38th place All-Time in steals.  Next up on the list is Tim Hardaway (20 steals away).  Barring injury, he has a good chance to catch Dennis Johnson (69 steals away) before the season ends.

And to round it out, KG just passed Kevin Mchale to move into 22nd place on the all-time blocked shots list.  Next up is Mo Malone.
