Updated.

Closest upcoming milestones, Paul Pierce 3,000 assists and Ray Allen 4,000 rebounds.  Expect both in the next week or two.

Just wanted to point out that KG blocked his 1700th shot last night.

KG also tied David Robinson for 28th on the All-Time NBA scoring list.

I'm all for analyzing statistics, but I've never understood the significance of milestones. The fact that we chose base 10 shouldn't make 1700 blocks any more or less significant than 1699 or 1701 blocks. What is significant is when a player passes another player in the career rankings of these stats.

And yes, this post is not very significant...

We are a simple race and nice round numbers with lots of zeros are simple and nice looking for milestones.  I agree with you that they are completely arbitrary and that passing people on the rankings is more significant, but that happens on the way to the benchmarks...

It's no different than celebrating a birthday or an anniversary.  What makes your 16th birthday any different than your 15 year 212 day mark?

The answer is: it's a milestone
Yup

I agree with you redz... but a poor example since a lot of 16 year olds will tell you that 16 is more significant than 15 because it means they can go get their license :-)

Yeh, it was an arbitrarily chosen number, but I hear ya.

The ones that I see Schupac's point more so on are when a guy is 1st player to have 5000 of this and 4000 of that and 8000 of the other.  In that case I don;t see much difference in him being the first to have 4792 of this and 4005 of that and 7972 of the other and the above mentione #'s.  If you're the only one, you're the only one.

I've got to be honest Redz, you are giving me too much credit.  I didn't know I had a point.

Sorry guys, but all the hoopla about the best record in NBA history, 19 in a row, . . . . . . means didly squat now.

Lakers milestone? Kick that Celtic butt!

Same teams as finals, except Lakers ADD Bynum and Ariza, Celtics SUBTRACT Posey.

They finally got tested, and failed.

Lakers are better this year.

When we play here Feb. 5, the Lakers will be in the 5th game  of a road trip, and the second game of a back to back.

So, once again, we should have an advantage. Today, the Lakers were coming off a 4 games in 5 days east coast swing, with TWO babck to backs in 5 days.

And the Cs still lost!

We HAVE to win that one.

This thread is about milestones. There are plenty of other threads were your comments would make more sense.

And how was this loss any worse than game 3 of the finals, when we had PJ and Posey, and they lacked Bynum? Yet we still won the series.
