question for sox fans.would you guys PREFER if the league was fair w/a saary cap similar to hoops ,hockey,or football? obviously the sox would'nt be able to have the success they have now but would'nt it seem more earned and more special if they were able to obytain guys without a huge unfair advantage?  i hope to god the nba never goes the route that baseball has.

So Sabathia is off the market (yanks).  Will be interesting to see who else (other then us, the nationals, and LA) will now be suitors for Tex.

texeira will take at least 7 year 165 million deal it looks like now. i doubt the angels will do more than 140-150

u gotto think that we have a real good chance to land tex

this situation reminds me of the mussina manny ramirez one that happened way back

If we get tex i do see one of lowell, ortiz or youk going.

It is assumed his AAV will be higher then CC's (which was around 23 million), since Tex is an everyday player.  It is likely going to be close to 200 mill when all is said and done.  I still think the sox should offer 6 for 150 which has an AAV of 25 million.

as to your last point about the trade-that is a given.  they arent going to have one of those guys as a bench player.  it wont be ortiz, who is a 10-5 player and can block any trade.  it would be lowell if anyone, and would likely require the sox eating some of the money he is owed.

A new name to consider:

John Smoltz.

Sox have talked to his agent.  reviewed his medical records.  Smoltz has said they are on his list of teams he would play for (believed to be Tigers, his hometown, Braves, and Sox)

well then lowell or ortiz. Prob lowell. Its too bad texeira can't play outfield then it would be easier to ship jason "can't hit offspeed" bay

as I wrote above, it wouldnt be ortiz because of his 10/5 rights.  the team also wouldnt trade him because he is a face of the franchise/league.

Unless the Sox get somebody fairly good in return, I wouldn't trade Mike Lowell.  With all the injuries last season, the bench was an absolute mess by the end of the year.  I don't want to see the Sox repeat that.  Between 1B, 3B, DH, and RF (for Youks) it's certainly possible to get all involved a healthy number of at bats.

I have a feeling the redsox feel they have to tack on another  year to teks offer just that boras then will try harder to entice texeira to sign with us

Not sure what the redsox are waiting for in regards to making an offer for him already

So yanks apparantly will sign aj burnett and lowe?? Lowe has an offer for 4 years 65 million from them, plus aj burnett looking at around 90 million thats almost 300 million dollars for 3 pitchers none who are ace quality

Also they are interested in manny?? wow they really go after the redsox leftovers for whatever reason

Question-
Why on earth would they get rid of Lowell? AND eat some of his salary, while keeping two stiffs like Lugo and Drew. The money those two make is sickening.  And I really like the rumor of Rocco Baldelli coming here- why not?, he could pinch hit and play as many games as his health would allow- which would almost certainly be more than JD :)
IMO they should have kept Crisp, they should let Varitek(automatic out) go-, dump Drew and Lugo, sign Texiera, try Pettite or Smoltz if the money is reasonable.
As far as Texiera not being able to play outfield, can't any decent infielder move to the outfield and do at least a respectable job?
And as for Ortiz, I'm worried that he may go downhill as fast as Mo Vaughn did, but I really hope not, who doesn't love Big Papi? And no, I wouldn't trade him, unless he deteriorates so much that he becomes a bench player and asks for a trade.
I'm sure I'm missing or forgetting some obvious moves, but to me, the Sox are mostly something to watch during the basketball off-season. Just kidding, I love the Sox too.

they are not going to eat JD drews contract. Lugo yes, JD's, no way. not only is it a ridclously oversalired contract to pay him not to play for you, but with ortiz trending down and unsure of what lowell will give us, he's actually one of our only power hitters.

none who are ace quality?  whats CC?

It is believed that they will sign one of lowe or burnett.  they have offers to both, but when one accepts they would withdraw the other.

Lugo for Byrnes being discussed:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=3761748&type=blogEntry

Byrnes contract is worse then Lugo's, but he is a better player.  I wouldnt mind that deal at all.
