It looks like D Miles is the guy who will get the axe but I hope he's not just to cripple the Blazers cap situation. I'm still bitter that they won the lottery in 2007 (even though if the C's had won it we prolly wouldn't have a ring.

If it was based on what's been shown on the court so far, Veal is the #1 option for getting cut.  Unfortunately his contract is a little too much to eat and it's a nice trading chip next year.  If Sam has a contract he's probably not getting cut, that leaves Miles and Pruitt.  BBD has too much size to let go right now.  Pruitt is looking better each game.  Miles looks like the option unless the C's bite the bullet and end the Veal era in Boston 2 years early.

Doc, PP and company never talk about Miles in subjunctive mood, they always say things like "he will contribute", "he will be a spark off the bench", "he will have some difficulties". Why should we waive him if he's much better than Scal, even though coming off injury? Because of the money? Come on, please. We will make much more money than those pennies throughout the season. He had the game-winning block on Scola, and this is definitely what we need! I can't see him getting cut.

I sorta agree with Bowski. For the cost of cutting Scala we can screw Portland's cap for years. You can't tell me DA isn't thinking of that. And in terms of who is more valuable think in terms of this.

It's a year from now. The Celts just lost a great player like Ray or PP. Someone amazingly stepped up to lead the team to victory in game 7. Was the player Miles or was it Scala? Exactly. We should try to keep him.

My god, thinking of another year with Scal is painful enough.

They'll probably make up for the money on jersey sells alone.

Scalabrine's contract is not going to be prohibit him being released.   The question is whether Miles can show enough in practice to warrant Scal's release.

I could also see them trading Davis for a future pick.

The more I watch Miles attempt to play out there the more vindicated I feel in my long standing position that Darius Miles will not be on this roster come opening night.

3 games 9.3MPB, 2.0 PPG. 2.3RPG, .33APG, .33STPG, .67BPG while being a complete no show on the court for extended periods of times.

Not good news for a guy with a non-guaranteed contract trying to make a world championship team!!

Do people realize Scal will not get cut because off his salary? :-\

Of course there is more to it.  Miles more than likely will be on the roster.  One question the 14th or 15th man on an NBA roster making the vet minimum hurts the C's how?  There are ways of storing Darius and causing grief to Portland and hoping he gets better as the season progresses.

And yes Scal will be on the roster right beside Darius.

My two pennies on the Scal situation:

Scal is easily the worst player vying for a spot on this team. More so than Miles. But, Scal has a guaranteed contract and has proven as early as last year that he can be a defensive presence within this team defense if a starter is to go down. He has proven he belongs, in a strange way. Miles hasn't. And Scal has proven that his body can hold up through an entire season. Miles has not.

If I had my drothers Miles would have a knee that would be guaranteed to last and he would only need time to get into proper playing shape again and if I had my drothers the Celtic would have as much money as the Red Sox and Yankees and wouldn't care about $6 million owed to a guy and could cut him.

But neither of those things are reality and in dealing in reality it is becoming more and more clear that as bad as Scal is, his contract and health will earn him the final spot on this team over a guy who is as far from a guarantee physically as a player can get and doesn't have a contract that penalizes the team monetarily if they cut him.

Is that line any different than what PJ Brown provided during the season for the Celtics?

18 games, 11.6 minutes, 34.1 FG%, 68.8 FT%, 3.8 rebounds, 0.4 blocks, 0.6 assists, 2.2 points.

Was he showing to be good enough to be in a championship team after playing 18 games? And you're going to hold those stats against Miles for his first 3 games after being off for about 2 years?

What about turnovers? Miles has yet to turn the ball over (if not mistaken)... I think that's a very positive thing so far. How about FG%, 75% from the floor so far... that's encouraging. Not in that he's a great shooter, but in that he's not been taking bad shots so far. That has to be a positive.

Overall, I think that Miles has played very smart so far. He's rotating fairly well on defense, he's contesting shots very well, not turning the ball over, not giving silly fouls over and over... isn't that what we're looking for from a player that should be a role player in this team? I think these things are worth noting when you consider that preseason is usually turnover and silly foul central.

I agree that it'll be hard to make this team as he currently is with his non-guarantee contract... but I don't see those stats as negatively as you're making them out to be.

I agree with everything you said but what about a potential buyout for Scal instead of a straight cut.   In that situation wouldn't it cost less for the team and thereare much bigger buyouts that happen in the league?

I've noticed some people have said we should keep Scal because his contract will be attractive next year to some teams.   We could just use part of the MLE next year and sign someone to a similar 1 year deal if it's that important.  if we were going to use him as trade bait this year with say for example BBD then that's a different story.

I'm glad the posts wanting Pruitt to be cut have calmed down.

I'm still not sure if it will be Scal or  Miles getting cut.  Sam has yet to play and maybe they will put him in their back pocket and keep him as a coach for now and maybe use him later in the season.

Doc has said it could com down to the last day so maybe they still don't have a clear idea of what they are going to do.

From the Spears article:

" Wait and see: Don't be surprised if the Celtics don't make the one needed cut to get to the 15-man roster until the deadline day, Oct. 27. It also looks very doubtful that they will make a trade. Don't expect Brian Scalabrine to be waived since the Celtics wouldn't eat his salary. "

So Spears does not see it as Scal.  Sounds like Cassell is already coaching Pruitt.  If Cassell keeps missing games for odd reasons, and Pruitt keeps improving, maybe Cassell is accepting the role of a new coach. That would work. Delays any real decision.  Maybe the ideal.   And Pruitt does provide the outside shooting game of Cassell's.

Spears is also saying that a trade is doubtful.  Interesting.
