Time to chime in, as it at least now has been confirmed that he signed a non-guaranteed contract. If it was a guaranteed deal a would have hated this move but where it is non-guaranteed, I am just a bit ambivalent.
On the one hand I see this as nothing more than the Esteban Batista signing last year where it gives the Celtics another body to run out there in preseason, rather than over running certain veterans, while still keeping an air of competition in the process. He's an interesting guy to talk about but has very little chance of making the team.
On the other hand, I love the fact that if in a perfect world this kid could return to his old self, Danny may hae found an excellent replacement for James Posey. Now, I understand why some people say he can't replace Posey but this team doesn't necessarily need a James Posey clone type player to be successful. So he doesn't shoot the three well and really won't be guarding 4's. But he would give Doc a tremendous slasher, finisher, weakside defender that could cause havoc in the Celtics team defensive team. In a perfect world.
And that's just it, this world is far from perfect so, because Miles has scads more talent than Batista ever will, there probably is a better chance of making the team. But I think a worst case scenario would be him making the team, playing more than ten games, guaranteeing his contract and then watch him go down because the doctors were all right that his knee would never stand up to the gring that is NBA basketball.
So I guess, let's see what happens but I'm not thrilled and am expecting little. I have never seen POB play ever and have watched Miles and I have to say that if I were a betting man I would bet that POB gives this teammore minutes and more meaningful quality minutes than Miles. The fact that Danny gave POB two years and wouldn't even guarabtee one year for Miles I think says lots about their expectations on the two.
