i like the move, hope they keep him. health professional tend to error way on the side of caution when prognosticating, because if they were to say he can play and then he were to injury himself they become heavily liable. And remember ppl, no one here has seen him workout or has the basketball knowledge of mr Ainge, so if he says he could play i'll believe him.

If i recall correctly Rodney Harrison was meant to be done before the pats signed him.

BTW the trailblazers would have no case against the doctors or the nba if he were able to play again as they were the ones who applied for the exemption.

I'm excited about the Miles signing, as a low risk - high reward possibility. I loved watching him play when he was a Clipper. I think KG will be a great role model for the kid.

Mind's open on this one. I haven't seen this guy stink it out on the court in person like I have Paddy O'Blount.

someone answer me this. If regardless he plays with us or any other nba team he is owed 18 million dollars how does he have any rights to sign with any other team than portland?? is he a restricted free agent?? he surely can't be an unrestricted free agent. Can't be also a restricted one either

Portland waived him.  Any time a team waives a player, and he isn't claimed by another team within (I believe) 48 hours, he becomes a free agent.  The original team still has to pay his entire original salary, though (plus the player gets whatever salary his new team wants to pay him).

If a team claims a waived player within 48 hours, the new team pays his entire original salary, and the original team is off the hook.  However, to claim a player you must have the cap space (or a special exception) to do so.

Ok, this is how I see it, correct me if I am wrong:

Miles has a two 9 mill seasons left on his contract with the Blazers

After his injury, the Blazers had a doctor say his knee injury was a career ender, thus barring him from NBA play and ridding themselves of his contract.  The doctors recommended a "knee transplant," which is as awful as it sounds. 

The Blazers got an open roster spot and 18 million off the books (their insurance picked up the bill)

The Blazers made it public that Miles knee injury was career ending, which is a violation of rules.  They most likely did this to scare off any other teams from signing Miles, thus saving the 18 mil for their budding young team.

Maybe, just maybe, the Blazers orchestrated a fiasco to rid themselves of 
Miles.  Maybe we can save the Blazers 18 million if they trade us a backup of point guard for Scals.   lol

If not, Miles may be a cancer.  But our team has several headcases and players recovering from injuries, which seems to attract Danny,  I am all for it - Ricky Davis was no problem.  I have also seen Miles eat the celtics alive a couple seasons ago.

He had to be examined by an NBA physician to have his injury deemed career-ending.  In all likelihood, he was also examined by an insurance company doctor, who declared him physically unable to play.

Thus, Portland doctors + NBA doctors + insurance company doctors all determined that Miles' career is over.  I think it's safe to say that he has an uphill battle.

Shaping up to be a rather exciting pre-season for the C's after all.  

The champs have TA, Walker, Giddens, Miles, Pruitt, POB all hungry for whatever available minutes are left from the starters, House and BBD/ Powe.  What an interesing group of young athletes. Add Scal to make 15 and we have the making of a competitive, fun October/ November.  

If Miles can provide 10 decent small forward minutes that would be great(BTW, if Miles' knees hold out, I would not be surprised if he could learn to be an effective defensive player). A lean, mobile 6'9" small forward could help create even more match-up options/advantages for this team. Of course, he could be a shell of his former self and could self-destruct as soon as NBA competition challenges his body.  Keeping expectations low but hopes high is my approach.

The only glaring misssing piece IMO is the veteran back-up center.  I think we can expect a confident Perk to start the year, but he needs a reliable back-up and he needs to stay healthy.

He's already getting paid the full amount of his Portland contract.  He had a fully-guaranteed contract, as do the vast majority of NBA players.  Portland waived him, so now he collects his full Portland salary, plus whatever Boston is paying him.

I really think this project is going to work.. I really hope he kills it in training camp this year so he can play with his hero KG. I really think he will adapt with this team as well and this team will take him in
