Very interesting.

I really wasn't expecting Miles to sign with the C's if this is true.  So now 10mil counts on the cap of Portland right?

only if he plays 10 games with the Cs... but i believe he first has to serve a 10 game suspension for what was rumored to be steroids of some form (i'm sure to help with his recovery).

interesting to say the least... is he really better than Brandon Wallace at this point? Probably, but like Maestro, i'll let this sink in a little.

Here it is:
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/54111/20080822/celtics_sign_darius_miles/

Per that report:

Quote
The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed free agent forward Darius Miles. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Miles, a 6’9”, 235lbs forward out of East St. Louis High School has posted career averages of 10.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.15 blocks in 412 career games. Miles was originally drafted with the third overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. Miles last played for the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2005-06 season when he averaged a career high 14.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in 40 games. Miles missed all of the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons due to microfracture surgery on his right knee.

“Darius has been in twice for workouts with us and has impressed us with his progress, health, and attitude;” said Danny Ainge, Celtics Executive Director of Basketball Operations/General Manager. “Darius will have the next couple of months to prove to myself and Coach Rivers that he can help us win.”

The Bellville, Illinois native became the first player in NBA history to receive All-Rookie honors straight out of high school when he averaged 9.4 points and 1.54 blocks for the Clippers in the 2000-01 season. Miles scored in double-figures in 31 of the 40 games that he appeared in during his last NBA season in 2005-06. As a starter in 23 of those 40 games he averaged 16.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

“I’ve watched the Boston Celtics play a lot last year and loved what I saw in their teamwork and chemistry on the court and it’s the team that I want to try to resume my career with.” said Miles. “I am excited about having an opportunity to play on a team that I feel my personality fits with and a team that can have great success on the court.”

Ugh...

Too many unproven and potential players in this roster to my taste. I suppose we're talking about an unguaranteed contract, right?

Guess he could be a guy like Derek Smith --- who totally had to change his game due to multiple knee operations... but was still an effective bench contributor.

If this is either a vet minimum, or non-guaranteed deal, which I would expect is the case, this is an absolute no-brainer.  Miles could be the perfect, long, athletic defender to throw at Lebron, if he is in fact healthy.  There is no reason not to give him a shot to come into camp and earn a spot on this team.

At the very least it should make the preseason much more interesting.

I do wonder if this means that Walker is on his way to Europe though.

Based on this statement, I would say yes, non-guaranteed...

I see no downside here.  It is not a stretch at all to see him as depth on the bench.  We have to trust that he did actually perform well enough in the work-outs to earn a try-out.  Now he gets a chance to prove he deserves a roster slot.  We can still invite other FA (or even Walker) on non-guaranteed contracts and let them fight for the last spot.

Eh, I see no problem with it, considering what else was out there this summer.  I would rather they take a chance on a guy like Miles with a contract they can just buyout if it doesn't work out, but who could potentially be a top notch role player if he is healthy, than bringing in a veteran, who you know is going to be mediocre.

They can always find a way to get a mediocre veteran during the season, they might as well see if they can hit a homerun first.
