I think the Darius Miles signing is similar to the Will Bynum and Ernest Brown signings of years passed: Miles will bring competition to camp, but has a low chance of making the roster.  My guess is Walker and Giddens bring more off the bench at this point, and I doubt Miles is still on the roster as of December 1st.  I also wouldn't be surprised if DA brings in another player for camp.

2 reasons why he will fail and succeed are

1. his knees situation is not pleasent no matter how much he thinks he has recovered. But i also have faith with the comeback tony allen made last year

2. poor work ethic, not the best attitude, already filthy rich. These three combos are bad news. The thing is he is only 26 and it was true he was only a kid 2 to three years ago still.

2 reasons why he will succeed

1. To make 18 million dollars he will never make again. He prob has nice cars, homes, people to support, buys wathever, eats whatever. He knows he needs more cash to keep living this lifestyle.

2. His idol is KG.  He will have more drive to play with his idol. And if he lets up just a little, kg will punish him verbally.

KG is the key to this signing as ainge is no fool(ainge also had a run in with a player before in phoenix so he knows about cancer players).

IF he plays anywhere near 2005 off the bench for us, he could be one of the best 6th man in the league

Just to be clear, I am pretty sure he makes that $18 million no matter what.  The NBA just gave the Blazers cap relief, they did not void the contract.

I have to agree, little to loose, lots to gain.  I think our team is set up so cancer/bad attitude players either adjust or they are gone.   I can't see him disrupting the team, especially with a small deal he can be dumped.  As for room on roster can't we send young guys to d league if someone else shows up?
So I guess I'm for the deal, don't like problem players but I can't see him mouthing off, reasons: KG, Perk, Davis, Powe and even Pierce and Rondo would put him in his place.

I'd rather have him then have nothing.  He'll be a good body for Powe and Baby to bang with in practice.

Maybe he can bang now if he's still fat, but if he's in shape Miles isn't even close to a banger, and wouldn't be matched up with Powe and Baby.

BTW, I think the "problem child" thing needs to be put in context.  If I am not mistaken, the only real problems he has had has been with smoking Marijuana, correct?  I may be forgetting some things, but I don't think he was ever a bad locker room guy or anything.

There was one now legendary Celtics Center who had some issues with pot and he ended up having a pretty successful career here, even when a Fed Ex package containing weed was discovered that was addressed to him......i.e. The Chief.

Not sure if it was ever confirmed but I heard recently that the pot issue was one of the reasons Red was able to get him in the Joe Barry Carrol trade.

Is Miles the same fella who got pulled over by police and presented his NBA rookie card as an ID? Or was that Qyntel Woods?

Time to chime in, as it at least now has been confirmed that he signed a non-guaranteed contract. If it was a guaranteed deal a would have hated this move but where it is non-guaranteed, I am just a bit ambivalent.

On the one hand I see this as nothing more than the Esteban Batista signing last year where it gives the Celtics another body to run out there in preseason, rather than over running certain veterans, while still keeping an air of competition in the process. He's an interesting guy to talk about but has very little chance of making the team.

On the other hand, I love the fact that if in a perfect world this kid could return to his old self, Danny may hae found an excellent replacement for James Posey. Now, I understand why some people say he can't replace Posey but this team doesn't necessarily need a James Posey clone type player to be successful. So he doesn't shoot the three well and really won't be guarding 4's. But he would give Doc a tremendous slasher, finisher, weakside defender that could cause havoc in the Celtics team defensive team. In a perfect world.

And that's just it, this world is far from perfect so, because Miles has scads more talent than Batista ever will, there probably is a better chance of making the team. But I think a worst case scenario would be him making the team, playing more than ten games, guaranteeing his contract and then watch him go down because the doctors were all right that his knee would never stand up to the gring that is NBA basketball.

So I guess, let's see what happens but I'm not thrilled and am expecting little. I have never seen POB play ever and have watched Miles and I have to say that if I were a betting man I would bet that POB gives this teammore minutes and more meaningful quality minutes than Miles. The fact that Danny gave POB two years and wouldn't even guarabtee one year for Miles I think says lots about their expectations on the two.

I think is a good move. He can be fired at any time. And honestly, if he gets his stuff together there is a ton of upside. And if he starts to act out, KG will him.

I don't mean that rhetorically. I mean KG will actually physically kill him with his bare hands.

I think having KG as the drill sergeant, more than anything, is the reason Danny is willing to take on such a problem child.

He had major, major problems with Mo Cheeks.  He got suspended at least once for publicly berating the coach, including repeatedly hurling racial slurs at him (and yes, I realize both men are black).

I believe that insurance is paying the contract, and if he plays this year the Blazers will have to pay the remainder. I also remember reading some possibility of the blazers having to repay the insurance company if he's healthy enough to play.

Regardless, Miles still gets every cent of his original blazers contract, regardless of the source.

This is the fact that makes me hopeful for Miles' success: he's willing to play for chump change compared to what he's already receiving this year and next year, so he must be just really wanting to play, right? It can't be about the money.

Hey Darius - do yourself a favor and spend the rest of the summer working on your 3 ball.  You are going to get lots of open looks from there, if you hit em you'll play.  If not, you'll need to find another job - and that one won't pay 6 figures.

I am very curious to see who makes the 12 man roster.  Its gonna be a dog fight at camp for those last couple spots.  Just the kind of compitition to prime us for another run at the Finals.
