Coach K can get creative:

Starters:

C –  Andrew Bogut
PF - Shaquille O’neal
SF – Lamar Odom
SG – Kevin Martin
PG – Tony Parker

Bench:

C  – Alonzo Mourning
SF – Gerald Wallace
SG – Michael Finley
PG – Luke Ridnour
SF - Bonzi Wells
PF – Tyrus Thomas
PF/C – Zaza Pachulia

Wow, a twelve-man roster through 8 rounds? Well done.

Shaq at PF? Interesting. Bogut would probably be better matching up against more mobile PFs than the Diesel though, wouldn't he?

Your second unit ought to clean up on the boards, even if it may not score a whole lot (aside from Wells and Wallace getting multiple trips to the free-throw line).

You know it just occurred to me that calling coach K as your coach is like calling "invisible shield" when you were a kid playing guns. Really, its absolutely impossible, but if it ever did happen it'd be killer.

Thanks, I've worked the phones like crazy.

As far as the starters go, I was just messing around with the lineup a little bit, Coach K can do what he wants. ;)

We wanted a gritty roster that has defensive toughness come playoff time, scoring ability and versatile lineups for the coach. I think we are another step closer today. :)

I welcome advice or criticism

Clippers:

PG: Williams, SG: Hamilton, SF: Jackson, PF: Nowitzki, C: Varejao
Bench: Hill, Oberto

We feel we have a nice 7 man rotation. We also feel we will be able to fill out our bench with quality.

I think your team could use a trade.  You have four centers, and zero "true" power forwards.  Arguably, you only have one "true" small forward, in Bonzi (as Wallace and Odom are hybrids).

It's a good roster, in terms of talent, but I'm not in love with how the pieces fit together right now.  Also, outside of Wallace, your bench is full of guys either past their prime, or with yet to be reached potential.  Zo may not play next year, Finley is close to being washed up, Ridnour has been getting worse, Bonzi has fallen off, Zaza had a horrific year, and Thomas hasn't tapped into his potential yet.  Plus, Bonzi and Thomas have had attitude problems, as has Odom.

I'm not sure what the right answer is, and I don't want to overly pick on your team.  It's a very good one, it just seems mismatched.

My top 5 young team.  (Basically, I like the young foundation to build a champion)

1) Minnesota Timberwolves.   There is this guy name Lebron James who is probably the best player on the planet now at 23.  Unselfish on the court and makes his teammates better.

2) Boston Celtics.   I still believe Oden is going to be the next great big man.  Include a 25 year PG with finals experience, some young shooters, this can be a dangerous team

3) Las Vagas Lakers.  Durrant, Bosh and Mayo.  Nice foundation to build off

4) Spurs.  Paul surrounded by young potential talent.  All 4 are going to overachieve as long as they play with Paul.

5) Portland.   Alot of young talent.   But I see them more as a now team that needs to make one big trade to win now.  To much young talent to resign.  Best player potential is a step below the potential of the other four teams.

p.s.  TP for whoever can guess who is going to complain 1st

I would like to point out that my ViceRoy is completely off base here.  My thought is that we're not comparing which teams have the best young *player*, but rather the teams that have the best future.

Guys 2 through 7 on Portland are substantially better than the young guys on Boston, Minnesota, and San Antonio.  Substantially.  Only Las Vegas really competes with them.  I mean, nobody on Boston really scares me outside of Oden; everyone else is untapped potential.  Same thing in Minnesota, really; Amir and Biedrins are a long ways away from being stars, although I definitely like what the Twolves have done.  Again, the same thing in San Antonio; CP3 is a stud, but the rest of the roster is completely unproven.

I think Las Vegas and Portland are clearly the two best young teams.  I also think that you underrate Amare a bit (he's the best offensive big man in the NBA, by a *wide* margin), and the "you can't resign everybody" excuse doesn't hold up because 1) we don't have contracts, and 2) my owner is one of the world's richest men.

Further, I'm not exactly sure why Bogut gets the edge over Al Horford, one of the game's most promising young bigs on both ends of the floor.

Bogut is better in every statistical category and He's 23. How does he not get the nod?

Career averages: Bogut 11.9 points, 8.5 boards, 1.1 blocks per game; Horford 10.1-9.7-0.9

It's not exactly a blowout, though Bogut is also the better passer.  That said, Horford is a year and a half younger, quicker, a better leaper and two years shorter on NBA experience thus far.  He came out of a great college program, is a hard worker and is expected to make tremendous progress over the next few seasons.  Here's guessing he'll pass Bogut in value sooner rather than later.

My earlier point about 'playoff experience' stands regardless.

Horford may surpass Bogut at some point in his career but my comparison was to show the here and now.

Also, Why are you using careers stats in this comparison? Wouldn't last year's statistics be more appropriate?

Seems to normalize for the fact that Bogut has been in the league two extra seasons.  It's my expectation that Horford will progress faster in years two and three as a full-time starter than Bogut did.

I like it a lot.  As I've said on plenty of other occasions, I think our teams will be meeting in the WCF for probably 6 out of 8 years (with Minnesota crashing the party a couple of times) beginning in 2011 or so.  In the interim, I'll have to try to win a championship or two to get a head start on you.

totally agree. your team is more "NBA ready" but in 3-4 years the series' could be legendary. not much to choose between the 2.
