C – Andrew Bogut
PF – Lamar Odom
SF – Gerald Wallace
SG – Kevin Martin
PG – Tony Parker

Bench:
C  - Shaquille O’neal
PF – Tyrus Thomas
SG – Michael Finley

Well here we are so far, incomplete like most teams but the roster is filling out pretty nicely with young veterans, Finals MVP running the point and championship experience coming off the bench.

I'm not the biggest fan of Odom playing the 4 but looking back to last season and the NBA playoffs where he held  his own against Western Conference foe, I'm becoming comfortable with it.

After the first preseason ranking had the Orlando Magic as winning the Southeast division, Wizards' GM KCatthestripe had this to say:

" That's probably fair. I mean they have Tim Duncan right? AND Allen Iverson? To heck with this. Brad MILLER? Man, that's just unnecessary. I quit, we should all just go home. Pack it up, seasons over.

What? Whats that you say? It's NOT 2001? It's 2008? And Duncan is old? 32? and in the decline of his career? Iverson is 33? And is playing 2 guard? Brad Miller is NOT 32! Really? And they drafted that guy with the funny hair from Florida who shoots free throws like his daddy putting backspin on a tennis ball? And that guy who used to be from Boston that always talked out of the side of his mouth? And a guy named 'Thaddeus"? There are people who aren't civil war re-anactors named Thaddeus? Get out of town?

And you say we have Shawn Marion And Andrei Kirelenko, two of the most versitle defenders in the league? Two guys who like to get out and run? And the best two guard prospect not named "Roy"? And a young, athletic big, with good post moves, interior passing ability and averaged a block and a half in RESERVE minutes last year? Get out of town, somebody smart drafted him. And we've got a scoring point guard who can get out and lead the break and is adept at driving to the hoop and dishing out? Wait, now you're telling me we have a guy named JR, and nobody's shot him? And we have that kid from Yonkers who had the TV show? Plus a guy who scored 48 points that one time, that's pretty cool.

So I guess it is fair to say that the Orlando Magic are better than us, even though they probably keep their AARP cards in their gym lockers. Did I mention they have a guy named Thaddeus?

So I guess that's fair.

Now that it is updated.

Atlantic - Knicks.   Still need a starting SG and reserve Gs.

Central - Pistons.  Still need that go to guy

SouthEast - Magic.  All you have to  say is 'Duncan'

4th seed - Nets.  Already 7 talent deep

Northwest - Portland.  Already 8 deep

Pacific - Clippers.  Tough one to pick

Southeast - Rockets

4th seed - Timberwolves.  Lebron, Lebron, Lebron.

I'll repeat a suggestion I made in the chat a few days ago, and will gladly take on some of the tabulation work to make it happen:

After the rosters are finished and trading has been finalized and we "justify" our teams ---- each GM makes a 1-15 ranking of the opposite conference's teams (so they have no vested interest....).

I volunteer to tabulate the 30 rankings to get our 2 sets of teams in each conference:  8 teams in the PLAYOFFS (with NBA-style seedings (i.e. 1 team from each division in the top 4 seeds) and 7 teams in the Lottery, in each conference.

for the PLAYOFFS --- we'd post the matchups and have either each team write why they'd win or find 2-3 "judges" write up an anylsis.... and vote on who would win each round (not just "best team" but who matches up and would win the round...All the way through to the finals.  Who, knows, with homecourt advantages, etc, there could be an upset along the way, etc.

IDEA, #1a: we could also see if Steve W. would like to post these matchups in his AROUND THE NBA section on CBlog and let everyone on CBlog vote... it would be a fun way to show "the community" what we 30 nuts have been doing for 3-4 weeks :)

for the LOTTERY --- we'd vote on which teams (maybe top 3?) have the best chance to win/challenge for a title (a) the quickest and (b) in say 3-5 years....  (this is a little less cut and dry).

What do folks think?  I think it woudl be an interesting way to "crown" a winner.
PM me if you'd like to help and PM or post if you think it's a good idea.

Stop playing the fence on the 8th seed and put your Spurs. It's okay.

Interesting, that there's not much love for the Nets.  I had them as pretty clearly the front-runners in the East, but people seem to disagree.

(I'm not going to disagree with anybody who has Portland #1 in the West, though. ;))

I'd have to concede that right now the Nets are #1 in the East and the league.

I'm totally on the Nets bandwagon in the East. I think the Knicks have the best player in KG but the Nets team overall is much better. IMO they are better at 4 out of 4 starting positions: PG: Kidd is better than Miller, SG: Maggette is better than Posey, SF: Pierce is better than Lewis, Center: Okur is better than Dampier. Plus they have Gooden and Lopez off the bench. The Knicks have an unproven and imo future bust Robin Lopez.
