Are you serious about questioning Monta Ellis? Have you watched a game that Monta Ellis played last season?

He is young AND capable of playing both guard positions (not a bad thing to have a good pg believe it or not). And his scoring ability resembled a healthy D  Wade last season. Got a great shot, incredible quickness, and there's ben constant improvement. He's a perfect guy to build your team around.

You are foolish to sleep on the guy as he's a complete stud.

I think he's more of a young AI with a little less skills but more height. He doesn't throw it down enough to be D Wade.

Because most GMs think you could have draft him in the top of the 2nd (if not lower)

I didn't want to take the chance. I had an opportunity to grab a solid player at the 18th spot who is capable of playing the point guard position. A position that has fairly limited options. My other PG options were Arenas and Davis who have health questions circling them right now.

If I don't take a PG the next logical selection is a sg or sf and I think there's an abundant amount of good players at the position.

Ellis provides me with the talent, youth, and flexibility to start building a team around.

I think you could have traded down 15 slots, picked up a 4th rounder and still selected Ellis.

But this is what makes the whole thing fun, right? you think anyone in the real NBA had SAC taking Jason Thompson so high this year?

Its nice to see a team be bold and go for the guy they really want... i would have taken a guy about 7 or 8 spots higher than he went if not for the draft day deal i made....

I've been fielding quite a few inquiries about my 2nd rounders.

I'm certainly going to use my next two 2nd, which are coming up soon.

The #14 in the 2nd round might be available, but I'll only trade down in the second, not out. Your offer must include a 2nd rounder.

The problem with the trading was that I really couldn't do it. In order to make my pick at work I have to go to a specific area (and make sure no supervisors see me doing this as Celticsblog is firewalled on my office cpu) at the exact time of  my pick giving me minimal flexibility.

For example, I had an offer on the table from the Lakers that I would've taken up but it would've been unfair to agree to do the trade when my pick was on the clock. And with there only being a five minute window that pick could've dropped significantly for him.

So at the end of the day, as I mentioned before, I picked the guy who I thought would give my team talent, flexibility and youth. I thought that Ellis had as productive of a season as the guys around him, and I see potential for him to improve this season significantly greater than those other players.

I liked Ellis a lot more than any of the other players that were available, and dropping down wasn't an option.

FTR Monta Ellis is an amazing player. His biggest knocks though are that he has

a) Suspect handles
b) undersized for the 2
c) Poor court vision
d) can only drive to the hoop in a straight line (as opposed to Allen Iverson, whose path to the hoop looks like a real life game of chutes and ladders)

The very biggest knock is that he's not a suitable point guard. He can hide that with Baron Davis on the team, or Stephen Jackson facilitating, but alone? Yikes...
